Is GTX 580 SLI enough for 2650x1600 - Page 2

The thing is I only have 1 gtx 580 atm. Should I sell the 580 and get a palit 580 or buy another 580 for sli? So is 1x Palit 580 better than 580 SLI at 1600p? Thanks!

In terms of processing power, no. Actually in just about every measurement except AA SLI will be better than 1 3GB card. But if you go for a setup as big as what you have then one of the last things I would want to cheap out on is VRAM, that's a pretty big corner to cut. The best thing I can think of for you to do is sell your current card and pay the $150 or so extra on top to upgrade to one 3GB Palit 580, this will give you a better experience then you have currently because even 1 580 is VRAM limited at 1600 with only 1.5GB. When you can afford it then get another 3GB 580 and you will have a very good set up for your res.

If you just buy another 580 you will be spending $500 and at the end of it you will still have a limited set up which seems kinda silly to me considering the money you have already invested ($1000 monitor and $500 card already). Or doing what I suggest you will end up paying about $750, after selling your current 580 and upgrading to 3GB then getting another when you can, but you will have a setup that will be very appropriate and well balanced for just about anything you would want to throw at it.

The choice is yours of course but it seems like an easy decision looking at the big picture.

No, it's still going to be SLI vs Single, where SLI will win. Doesn't matter that the single card has 3GB VRAM. Since you already have a regular 580, grab another and SLI. You won't have problems maxing out games on your 30" with that.

Currently out of stock at Amazon but

anyway, they were in stock as of 3/29. They have also been deactivated from newegg. Don't be discouraged, best of luck finding them, it will really pay off for your super rig once you do.

The Palit 3GBs are hard to find. EVGA is coming out with a 3GB 580 shortly.

6950/70CF would be be good with your setup as well and you could actually get two 6950s for just maybe $100 after selling your 580. That wouldn't be a bad route, obviously SLI 3GB 580 would be better but I don't know if it would be $500 better. Either way with the amount of money you have already invested in your set up I would not settle for any less than 2GB of VRAM at your res, and even 2GB is just 'enough' rather than the 'more than enough' you would get out of 3GB 580s.
