I've already read PoopaScoopa's guide on how to over clock and test, I was wonder though what are good beginner clocks to try over clocking with I'm very new to Nvidia cards and the (shader slider ext) options i have there... i just used the basic ati to over clock that card as well. any help would be appreciated thank you.

I've been told to bump my 460 up to 800/1600/2000 instantly on stock voltage immediately, since that's what clocks the Palit Sonic Platinum has.

Is this a 1GB or 768MB one?

this would be a 768MB, and thank you I'll run those for now.
768MB ones are supposed to be able to overclock higher, I think. Especially on the memory.

everything looks good so far on those clocks 10 mins in fur and temps haven't gone above 80, and no artifacts think I'm good. or.. how long should I run fur to be safe?
Go play a game for a bit. Furmark is over the top. Play some Crysis or GTA4 or something that's intensive that you play often.

I hear Rift is pretty demanding, but nowhere near Crysis.

Two not very demanding games but I find are the most sensitive to instability: MoH Airborne for VRAM and BF BC2 for core. I found ran 810/4000 stable in OCCT and Crysis but playing those two games I had to back down to 800/3850.
