1) Honestly, any high end cooling solution will do you well. A large tower will do you well, a H50/60/70 will get you a few celsius lower temperatures and a full blown watercooling setup will shave off a few more C.

2) Yes, there is some debate, I don't care too much for thermal paste myself. I'm still using AS5 and getting acceptable temps so whatever. Some say Shin-Etsu is great, others say the OCZ stuff is awesome.

How hot? How much airflow was in the case? How much dust buildup was there? Lots of variables that need to be considered. Most reference GPU coolers on the high end cards get the job done. I can say from experience that the 6950/6970 cards run hot. Definitely look in to an aftermarket cooler unless you like a loud blowing fan.

The CPU idle was fluctuating around 60c, which seems kind of hot to me since it was on an OEM motherboard, so it wasn't overclocked, I had 2 120mm fans, and a heatsink and radiator. I tested the system with a cheap $20 GPU (idk what it was), and the temps went down to 50 idle. It was an older card and really didn't take much power. Plus, it was the series prior to the ATI HD series, so I don't know why it would get so hot, but it was really heating my CPU, and occassionally the outside of the case would get hot. I don't really know anything about GPU cooling (I've never needed it), but do you think I need it or did I just get unlucky with my last card? And what card would you recommend around $250?

Oh and Sarah says hi.

Are you talking about the P8P67 or the Sabertooth? I was looking into the P8P67 when I decided to build. Do you have a preference in one or the other? There's about a $50 difference in the two.

Unless you want to go to a full water cooling solution just get a D14 and call it a day, they perform better than anything Corsair can through at it.
