2GB Ram Upgrade for Netbook

Hey everyone I wanted to ask some advice on upgrading my netbook from 1gb 800mhz ram to 2gb 677mhz ram.

Currently there is a kingston 2gb 677mhz ram stick on for 30$.

The thing is when I bought my asus 1001p netbook I orderd a kingston 2gb 677mhz stick with it that has since died. I am now back to the original 1gb 800mhz stick.

The netbook runs fine now. I am worried that it might be a problem with ram comparability. The old Kingston ram lasted a good couple months with no problems, but then died for no reason. The computer screen would act weird and it would shut off. I Swaped back in the stock 1gb stick and it solved the problem. Do you think it would be safe to buy another 2gb stick?

I guess what I'm asking is was it likely a faulty ram stick that failed, or did the laptop somehow damage it.

Kingston usually make quality RAM, albeit inexpensive. They also have pretty decent customer support and I think all their RAM modules have lifetime warranty.

In my opinion 2GB is a good size for a netbook, it's what I also have (though mine could be DDR533), 1GB is pretty borderline. First check if there may be a BIOS update that improves RAM compatibility. You should try to contact K and RMA the 2GB module you have, but if you can't wait you could get the 30$ 2GB stick.

I think I'm gonna get this instead Crucial 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Laptop Memory Model CT25664AC800

It's the same price and 800mhz speed. Laptop ram is certainly much cheaper than I remember, my original 677 2gb stick was like 60$ and I'm seeing all these 30$ kits on newegg.ca, but maybe I just wasnt looking at the egg back then.

It is cheap nowadays, and some 6 months ago DDR2 was even cheaper (below 20$/2GB stick). Betwen Crucial & Kingston I'd also pick the former, I had great experience with their Ballistix series
