ASUS Radeon HD 6950 2GB - Will it unlock?

Thread Starter
About a week ago I ordered a ASUS Radeon HD 6950 2GB GDDR5.
PCI-Express 2.0,"DirectCU II", 2xDVI-I, 4xDisplayPort, 810MHz.

My question is. Will this unlock to 6970?

Give it a shot?
Doesn't look reference, but good luck.

From what I have read, the switch is for the DVI ports so the card doesn't support dual BIOS. It's not a reference board so if you flash, you would have to use the HD6970 DirectCUII. BIOS.

This review here was where I read it.

Would it cause any problems if i used that bios?

Answer to the openeing post is maybe.

You ideally want to use RBE to unlock the shaders only. The 6970 has better memory chips and your chips may not be able to cope.

Before falshing I would make dead certain you know you can flash it back. Remember its at your own risk.

That's the problem with the card. It doesn't have a second BIOS as back up.

The chance of unlocking is as good as that on a reference card. Just use the shader unlock mod here, following this guide (but not using the 6970 bios, instead following the other guide and modding your own).

If you ever mess it up (although if you follow the steps you shouldn't) then you can just blind flash it or use another PCIe card if you have one to flash it back to stock bios. However you shouldn't need this because the card has a dual bios switch just like the reference ones.

Mines all good mate, same card as you and unlocks and performs perfectly well. Unless they have changed anything since I bought this card in January, your good to go

Edit: Mine defiantly has dual BIOS

I was under the impression the switch changes something on the video ouput and not bios's.
