So my work wants me to create a program for them, simple enough, i can do it, but im unfamiliar in how to get it to work as an executable solution. I am learning VB and Java, but what would be the best option to make an applet to run on a windows desktop?? The code and form are laid out, plus i need to be able to export the data to an Excel spreadsheet

Kind of confused at what you're asking here? What are you trying to use?

You can create the executable no matter what language you end up dealing with. You said either Java or VB? That means either a .jar file with a JRE installed or a .exe with the .NET framework installed.

If you're using VB and Visual Studio, inside the solution there will be a "bin" directory containing the .exe file.

as for java:
Quote:
Creating a jar File in Command Prompt

Start Command Prompt.
Navigate to the folder that holds your class files:

C:\>cd \mywork

Set path to include JDK’s bin. For example:

C:\mywork> path c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_09\bin;%path%

Compile your class(es):

C:\mywork> javac *.java

Create a manifest file:

C:\mywork> echo Main-Class: DanceStudio >manifest.txt

Create a jar file:

C:\mywork> jar cvfm DanceStudio.jar manifest.txt *.class

Test your jar:

C:\mywork> DanceStudio.jar

I wouldn't just pluck an executable compiled with a 'Debug" target and use that in a production environment. At a minimum, be sure that you've set the configuration to the built-in "Release" configuration and rebuild before grabbing the file from bin. You're also going to need to grab all of the dependencies for the project as well.

MsBuild is your friend for packaging up applications for distribution.
