[MyCrysis] DirectX 11 coming for Crysis 2! - Page 13

Yes, does that make it a console port? No.
CE3 cuts out the need to translate the code over manually, so you will now start with a scaled down version on the PC and the engine will automatically translate the code over to PS3 and 360. The engine is not capable of scaling Crysis/Warhead to consoles, or DX11! Technically it's not a port but the game was scaled down to begin with, eliminating the term "port". It's a marketing tool for devs to buy CE3, it's easier than coding for all three. CE3 can produce a similar game across all three platforms, which is awesome, but not PC first. The PC version has to be independent of the console version in order for it to shine.

The issue is that Crytek said it was PC first and it wasn't. Compromises were made for console from the beginning, like the game taking place in New York, a console compromise. Why I said that? The initial videos on Youtube has CE3 running a scaled down version of the original Crysis and other jungle environments, it probably ran crappy on consoles so New York was a better setting.

I'm not denying any of that, I'm just arguing that the use of the word port is completely wrong when talking about crysis 2. also the engine is fully capable of better effects, they just didn't want to add effects that couldn't be fully scaled down for consoles in crysis 2, the engine itself can make a game look much better then crysis 1 if you had seen any of the cryengine 3 technical videos that were released quite awhile back. I would also like to say the pc version looks much better then the console versions, the consoles are running at modified lowest settings on pc. Max on pc looks far better then low. It is just harder to spot since lower settings doesn't disable entire effects like the original.

I look at the whole picture, the setting of the city is incredible, the varied used of objects, from gazeebos, to trees, even the crates.

To put it simply, there is a hell of a lot more 'stuff' in a normal crysis 2 map then there is in crysis 1.

That's all that matters to me.
For me,
Crysis 1 with mods >>> Crysis 1 dx10 >/~ Crysis 2 dx9 > Crysis 1 dx9

Crysis 2 has better lighting effects compared to Crysis 1 (mostly just a settings issue) that can easily be tweaked with console or file edits - Crysis 1 just has a terrible TOD setting in vanilla, namely barely using its lighting effects at all.

Crysis 2 on the other hand has better lighting effects than C1 vanilla but is inferior in all the other aspects.

When dx11 comes out and patches that allows users to tweak graphical settings ingame (and console/file edits) that make it look better than Crysis 1 with mods, then I will be impressed.

to all the people who are hating the guys who want DX11, higher resolution textures and better graphics:

Give these guys a break OK? Crysis 1 was (well in recent times) the hallmark of PC graphics. Yes many people also enjoyed it as a game like me, but nevertheless there are probably more gamers who bought it for the graphics.

Now 4 years later a sequel appears! and it's released with the old DX9, the multiplayer has been downscaled, the game is quite linear, the graphics haven't really gotten better ... etc.

Now if you were hoping this game to be a sequel to crysis 1 and were waiting for the graphics wouldn't you be pissed?

This is THE one game that people were hoping to take the leap in PC graphics and when that failed and people started moaning you're calling them elitists, idiots etc. really? I mean really? you guys have tons and tons of games that you can play for gameplay but when gamers ask for ONE game that would max their rigs and truly advance tech, they're considered idiots, and not gamers.

Think about it.

This, so much truth on these words. To me its like having your favorite music artist sell out and become more mainstream, something theyre not. Crysis was very unique, but not the most popular because many peoples rigs couldnt handle it or they just console gamed. Now its like crytek took a complete 180 to please the larger crowd. Like you're favorite band changed to a completely different genre, making worse music for higher record sales. Selling to those who don't appreciate a true quality product. Crytek kinda lost theyre pride... don't get me wrong they did an amazing job given the limitations of a dx9 platform. But for a title like Crysis 2 we just expected more.
