How is it that this is one of the better optimized PC games when it runs at times WORSE than Crysis 1 did, despite having more powerful hardware to run on, worse graphics, and can run just as damn well on an xbox?

Think about it. Xbox can play it with its crap hardware, but a PC that is 5x faster is running it slower than THE original crysis (which if you recall really wasn't optimized at all)

Actually both games - Crysis and Crysis 2 run about the same.

I have a GTX460 1GB and I get virtually the same framerates at 1680x1050 with High Settings (very High uses DX10 features, so that is why I'm comparing these two settings) on Crysis 1 or Hardcore on Crysis 2.

The optimization they did was to make a decently good looking game play on consoles from 2005 and 2006, and play on the PC at the same time, with the same engine and development tools. That's all internal Crytek optimizations; when it comes to the PC, there really is no optimization at all.

You could even further the argument, as Crysis has an open environment and Crysis 2 has a city environment, so it may actually perform globally worse if you were to do Crysis 2 in an open environment. At best, they even out. With Crysis 2 they traded the high resolution textures from the original with better overall lighting, but don't let that fool you - that is to take advantage of the consoles CPU cores, since their GPU's are already maxed out.

Do you mean very high for the original? Because if not you are not comparing the same settings.

That is very debatable, since Crysis 2 only uses DX9 right now, and Crysis 1 Very High Settings uses DX10 features, so it's not a fair comparison either.

To be 100% correct I'd have to tweak the configuration files to get the Very High DX9 settings. I still haven't done that. But the open world vs city environment probably would make things even again, like I said. It's difficult to compare two games with a fundamentally different gameplay mechanic, anyway.

Exactly. I have played both on the sig rig and Crysis still gives me fits. Crysis 2 on Very High, runs at a constant 50 to 60 FPS and the game play is smoother.

Also, compare C2 to BLOPS and a slew of recent "PC" games and CryEngine 3 is much better suited to run on a PC. For crying out loud BLOPS at the highest settings does not look as good as C2 at the medium, very high.

Name one game, other than Crysis and Warhead, better optimized that looks as good, runs as good and is as pretty? Is that crickets I hear? Thought so! There is not one. So who is full of it and doesn't know what they are talking about?

It is a well optimized game whether you think otherwise or not. It is still the second best looking game out in a decade, Crysis being number 1. Yet, it runs on lesser hardware than Crysis and still looks good. So yes it is optimized well. Funny thing is I really don't care for the game play, but even I can see it is a good engine.

As for those wondering: I hate deliberate stupidity, so sorry, but I will be a douche when people post complete nonsense. If you have no idea what you are talking about, don't bother talking.

And yes, I've played Crysis, Warhead, and C2. C2 runs slower at times on THE SAME rig and looks worthless compared to the original.

And before anyone tries any more "crysis ran poor on an 8800 and c2 runs great on a 570" nonsense, Crysis 1 is infinitely more graphically intense, it DESERVES to be more demanding. and last I heard, a 570 beats an 8800 by just a wee bit. Are they equivalent cards for their respective ages? Perhaps, but Crysis and C2 are not equivalent GAMES for their ages. C1 pushed the limits, C2 doesn't even dare to look in their direction.
The very definition of the word port shows that crysis 2 isn't a port. By your incredibly flawed logic every game that has ever come out on pc and console is a console port.
