My CRT died!!! What now??

Thread Starter
So my SONY KD-34XBR960 died.

http://reviews.cnet.com/direct-view-...=mncolBtm;rnav

Well it won't start up anyway.

With a little research I found that the "dz board is typically the problem".
So I am going to spend the $200 for the part and see if I can fix it.
It should be fun to try but I don't have time to tinker with it now.
Any advise on above??

That said I need a new TV.

Coming from this excellent CRT where do I go.

I read that the closet thing to CRT, at the moment is plasma and that the better brand in plasma is Panasonic.
I looked around and found this TC-P50GT30, $1709 at Sears.
http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-t...-34468656.html

I got about $2000 to spend and I hate leaving the CRT world.

Plasma is like CRT expect the geometry is perfect, you get massive screen size increases, reduced weight and bulkiness.. Only negatives with current plasma are reduced brightness when lots of white, image retention and floating blacks all of which affect CRT.

Grab the best Panasonic/Samsung plasma you can and I doubt you'll look back. I don't think you need to spend 2k though, you should be able to read up on lower end models. Just make sure you do read up on specific models you may buy so you know what to expect.

I thought about it. When reading a few AV fourms, this unit has a problem with the DZ board failing, so buying a used one is not for me.

Samsung.
Image retention is pretty much dead with current Plasma's. I left my TV paused for 5 hours and no retention (It was for an experiment)

Don't go with Panasonic there customer support is terrible.

22" of 16:10 viewing space is hardly optimal for TV, no matter how high the quality is.

OH, I misread. I thought we were in the Monitor forums!
-facepalm-
Ignore me, it's been a long day.

I've always had luck with Samsung if that's any help though.
