overclocking a 5850 non ref help

hi guys, so basically seems atm the only way to oc it seems to be like the amd oc tool there, but i cannot increase voltage so i cannot go that high

now i know guys say to try Rbe, it dont work! i flash my bios and it seems to "work" but the card does not actually engage that clock, i dont know whats up,

its like its putting a bios over a bios, it reads somewhat off the 1 bios and my oc, but playing games its 725/1000, even though i set bios and replaced 725/1000 with 1000/1250 at 1.3v,

so yeah i have no idea on what is going on, its making me mad, and i know the oc is doing 0, in unigen heaven i get exact same score, stock bios 450, modified 450, each test iis usually withn a few pts of each other, not like a 10 pt jump

so i need help big time! i want to get this card really working! you get a fairly big gain from going from 725 to 850 even.... but cannot go higher then 800 due to voltage,

850mhz on the CPU
1170 mhz for the memory clocks. Works like a charm.

There is a MSI tool that allows to change the voltage for the 6850, but I believe you've had to had to have bought a card from them. It also has core & memory clock overclocking features. It's not Afterburner btw.

well before i had a Reference design that allowed voltage change from in windows, until i ripped a chip off it, he he, if anybody wants to see that, then here http://www.overclock.net/ati/798614-...at-chance.html

any how aside from that yeah, its not a reference design, i was told before that bios editing was the only way, but like i said its not working right, gpuz says bios is 1000/1250@1.3v but afterburner and other programs show in 3d its only at 725/1000 so i do not know whats going on :\\ so thats why i need some help, in some sort of way or something

and 850mhz on gpu does not work, it freezes, so somewhere in 800 and 850 is stable, memory i cand do 1250 i think

I got my sapphire up to 895/1250ish just with help from After Burner.
No need to increase the voltage.
Are you shure you applied the O.C to the 3D not to the 2D setting?
Sorry was only 895/1200MHz
Do you have the 1 or 2GB version?

You really shouldn't be upping the voltage with stock cooling. Like Mr.Eiht said, it simple enough to just up it in either after burner or the Catalyst tool and leave voltage at stock.

Sorry mate i don`t get it...on the sapphire you can`t change the volts cause of the "i_don`t_know_how_this_thing_is_called_in_english" . So it wouldn`t make much sense to flash it with a other bios. You can get higher clock than 800. And flashing that bios could leave you with a mashed up card. So GL HF and i still don`t get it

I've got a sapphire non-ref 5850 and it hits 850/1180 no problem. Just make sure the REST of your OC is stable (ram, specifically). Then, just take your time bringing it to a comfortable level for your gaming needs. Start at 750/1000, 760, 770, 780, and so on, then when you get around 820, start doing smaller increments of about 5. Save your profile, and reboot whenever you get a crash. Bring it back down to a known stable value, then continue to work on 725/1000, 1010, 1020, and so on- saving in-between until it crashes. Bring it back to a known stable value. Now finally set it to the highest known stable value and test it out (it will likely be unstable). Gradually go down by 5-10's (or whatever your comfortable with) until it stabilizes. I recommend you run it for at least 4-8 hours, or even overnight, or about the amount of time you spend gaming daily. Save it into a profile. Done.

Remember to have a stock profile saved as well as your OC'd profile. Load up your OC profile whenever you want to bench or game.

Also, you CAN change the bios if you like, but there's really no point in the non-ref designs. These were manufactured cheaply for a reason. They basically remove whatever they can to save a few pennies. Don't bother trying to overvolt it or doing volt mods. If you don't know what the hell you're doing, you're gunna end up with a really expensive paperweight.

well todo with the voltage, i was told that only editing the bios can change how much voltage is fed into the card, not the windows program, so by editing the bios you can get around that,
