555 BE Hit a brick wall - Page 3

The TA870+ is a Biostar board, not MSI.

4.3GHz is really quite high for a 555BE. I've only been able to get mine to 4/4.1 (and that's possibly unstable too).

It's running stable-ish at 4.3 ghz now as a B55. Giving it 5.75 volts, nb 1.3125 @ 2600. Temps are higher, idling around 32C now. Interested to see what happens under load, don't know what to use to stress test it so I'm gonna find something now.

BSOD 5 seconds into IBT. turned it down to 4.0 and reduced voltage to 5.5, ran through IBT 5x stable but hot, up to 60C. Just going to leave it here for now, maybe play with it more after the arctic 5 is broken in.

May end up just selling the mobo, cooler, and CPU and buying something with more headroom. Funny thing is, I mainly started on the whole OC'ing trip because my pc could run all of my games with the settings maxxed smoothly except Civ 5, and I think to get that one running smoothly I need to look elsewhere, like at an SSD.

Any reasonably priced AMD's that can hit 5ghz on air? May end up just getting a better water cooler and MOBO and trying it with this one, dunno yet. If I'm really having problems with the MOSFETs on this mobo, putting a real water loop in that has MOSFETs could alleviate that problem I guess.

This is all kinda ridiculous anyways; I have no immediate application for so much extra clock speed, yet now that I've started I want to push it as far as I can . . .

wait wait you said 5 volts your going to kill your cpu. 1.55v is the max volt you should be running and that even pushing it for your cooler.
maybe you should start over at stock and slowly bump up the speed. Just forget about jumping to 4+ ghz if you don't know what your doing.

Nothing amd has can do 5ghz with conventional cooling.
Even Intel's i5-2500k and i7-2600k will have a struggle past 4.8ghz.

Your lag problem is probably a result of your video card tbh.

Read this. numerous guides to walk you threw this.

Was wondering if someone else would notice that. I'm assuming he's just writing it wrong and means to put 1.55v. Doubt the mobo has an option for 5.5v.
