The Sandy Bridge Owners Testimonial Thread

Hi
It seems to me! That lots of people on here, are very skeptic about Sandy Bridge!

And in lots of post! I've seen arguments about "how much better Sandy Bridge is"!
So yeah, Testimonials Please from Sandy Bridge owners.

Rules for Testimonials

1. Only post your personal experiences of SB!

2. You don't need to provide proof of anything you say! But if other SB owners call you out! "put up or shut up"

3. Try to be diplomatic when comparing SB CPU to your previous CPU!

Rules for Replies

1. If you think lies have been posted! Just quote and say "I can't believe that".
Then us SB owners will say if we believe it's true! If we don't "We will call the poster out"
2. Remember we're all on the same team "OCN"

Why the Rules!

The rules are because the only reason for any Sandy Bridge owner to post in this thread. Is to share their findings, and to help others! Like we do, on OCN
And so the rules are to save them from having to defend a post they thought they wrote to help!

I'm now off to write my Testimonial on Sandy Bridge!

First of all, it's 'skeptic' not 'sceptic'.
Second, nothing is wrong with SB, it is a godsend for us overclockers.

It's been really hard on me not going SB, but I'm going to put some money away and go IB. When the time comes I'll have the money set aside, and be ready to go!

The only reason I went SB was because I plan to one day go Sli with two graphics cards!

And my previous setup was a Q9650@3.8GHz on a EP45-UD3R! And finding a new motherboard for Sli, or getting SB were my options!
So I sold my Q9650 setup and got the SB setup
So that's why

So yeah, I'm now ready for Sli
But there's more!

As I knew in two weeks I was getting my new MoBo and Chip! I had two weeks to run benchies with my old much loved setup! With the intention of comparing them clock for clock
So test were done, and two weeks passed!

Enter the Sandy bridge.
Ok, I built it! Installed Windows 7. Yeah, feels fine! (Not overclocked yet) New OS is always fast, yeah I think it's quicker! Was my feeling at that time!

So then I start with all the benchies!
No surprise! The scores are higher in all the Futuremark benchies
Although the individual GFX test scores came back a fps or two lower! (Which DID concern me)! But in all the tests my GPU was at 99% monitored in my G15 LCD
In 3DMark11. The Combined Test score went up! Now, in this test my GPU sat at 99% And I didn't with my Q9650
And all this time I was still at 3.8GHz

Then I start running my game benchmarks!
And I relise like two weeks late! That all but three of my game benchies were bottle necked by my GTX480
So I was like, "Great, I can play Company of Heroes at 338fps now from 282fps" Was there much point "I asked my self"
So with the GPU bottleneck fail I set of to try Crysis 2007
Installed it maxed it out with just 2 AA and started to play!
Wow! Crysis plays almost as smooth as Left4Dead
And this is with Fraps saying 40fps! But smooth! Gun and Run! No need to stop to shoot! Smooth I say

So, what about Metro 2033 I thought!
Now I know Metro 2033 I've maybe played it more than anyone else that wasn't payed to play it
And I have played it all settings!
My Q9650@3.8Ghz and GTX480 were good for High settings
And now I'm playing it smooth on Very-High for 95% of the time! Again my fps are being bottle necked by my GTX480, but it now smooth!

Other game, that I've found run better for me are!

"F1" now stays at v-sync!

TDU2 I can play maxed out with 4x AA stays at v-sync, before it would dropped to 40fps through built up areas! v-sync

Mafia 2 I can now play with APEXPhysX? on high, stayed at v-sync 98% of the time so far. Maxing out GPU though!

Batman AA maxed with max PhysX, I can play while encoding
Well it impressed me

So yes! I'm very happy with my Sandy Bridge
I've played Games at 4.944GHz!
But have settled at 4.5GHz 24/7 because of the volts and temps are much nicer

Sandy bridge as an overclocking experience, is about as fun as getting poked in the eye by a monkey who has been playing with his own feces.

For everyone who hasn't seen my posts.

I moved from phenom x 6 OC at 3.8GHz cause my 6950 crossfire setup was being bottle necked. I ordered a 2500k and a cheap g45 board and was amazed at how instantly and easily I broke 4GHz. It was so easy I could not believe it. On AMD cpus current gen I had to work to do it but not here at all. My GPUs are no longer bottle necked and I am loving it. It seems with a better phase board I would be able to hit 5GHz. But im happy with my 4.2 at 1.255v.

Plus 1155 being compatible with IVY you cant beat that. I have been a AMD fanatic for awhile and lately Intel has been making me happy on CPU side that is.

Bad news first, I had my first dead CPU with the first 2600K I bought. Thankfully the retailer found it faulty and gave me a new one.

So the good news? I have 3 sandybridge 2600K crunching 24/7 for at least 2 months with no problems at 4.6GHz.

155W draw each and sub 70C temps, whereas my previous nehalem i7's were 230W draw each with 75-85C temps. Save on electricity, have a cooler room... and they are so much better performers!

What is there not to love?

"1155 being compatible with IVY" I thought IB was going to be a totally different socket?

I did used to say, "Intel haven't invented my next chip
But then I wanted to go Sli! So what do ya do when all the best MoBos are no longer available! Or so so expensive! So I changed socket!

'skeptic' got it
Yeah, you're right it's sweet! But it gets a lot of hate?

Thing is, I didn't even think of hating i7 1366 when it came out! I't didn't make my Q9650 worse! And in-fact, I was rarther hopeing that Tech moves on and things get faster

I only moved for the Sli
And how much better the SB is to your setup IDK!
And I cant help thinking if I were you, have a good look at Ivy or BD
You have to search your own soul! I never got buyers remorse! But I had skipped a CPU gen
