I might buy a top end MoBo for my SB, but I wont change socket now for a couple of years! Unless it dies

I LOVE the AVX instruction set in SB. Had to upgrade my compilers (accompanied by annoying code modifications), but now my desktop runs floating point intensive simulations much faster (1.4 times) then my Xeon X5670 workstation! Its beautiful, I cannot wait until I can get an 8 core Xeon with AVX.

It's nice to see computers getting so powerful!
I mean. It's took like 3 years for me to almost max out the game Crysis! For a reasonable price!
Made for future hardware they said! And now, the tech is affordably catching up

I love my 2600K! I have gotten 5GHz on it pretty easily and would run it at that if I had better cooling. My current settings are at 4.8GHz with 1.360V, 100% stable. I am happy with that. Moving from an AMD Phenom II B55 (unlocked 555BE) to this 2600K was quite a big difference. I saw improvements in not only games, but also (and to a greater extent) my encoding experiences (audio/video). IMHO, Sandy Bridge is totally worth the money!

You got a sticker with your CPU? Ah, man. I feel cheated lol.

I love SB so far. It was one of the easiest builds I've done, everything has worked better than I could even imagine, so far. I haven't OC'd yet, but will soon.

coming from a socket 775 with the Q6600 at 3.8ghz (which was quite impressive If I say so myself) I was blown away with the sandybridge. Took me less then an hour to get to 5.1ghz, but it take a couple weeks getting it prime stable. Now I'm running at 5.1ghz without a single bsod and its crazy fast. I do have a pcmark05 ss of my last rig but unfortunatly cant seem to get pcmark05 work because of the windows media encoder issue.

All I can say is that it's one of my best upgrades I have made and the overclock helps in when using multi-core apps that utilies the speed.

For me it was easy to upgrade to Sandy B since I've been using a piss-performing XFX 750i mobo for the last 2 1/2 years. The problem for me is completing my Sandy B rig. It's been 3 weeks and I've finally ordered the GPU I've been waiting to be released (see sig). I had promised myself that I would give AMD/ATI a shot (since I've been with Nvidia forever) with Sandy B and I now, I finally get to build this rig next week I was going to exchange my mobo for a Gigabyte UD5 or ASUS Sabretooth but I've changed my mind. Gonna sit back and chill with this MSI GD55 and wait at least a year or 2 before I decide to buy a more robust mobo. I plan for Sandy B to keep happy for at least 3 to 4 years before upgrading to a newer platform.

LGA775 took me a long way since the 680i days...I do not see why Sandy B can't do the same
