It was an MSI card so I called them up and spoke to an RMA rep and complained, explained the problem I had with the current GTX 570 cards and the faulty VRM phase design. and explained to him that I did not feel safe having this card in my system, as both times when they died there was a smell of melting components. They requested that I test the power supply, which I had been with an overclocked 4850. I suggested to the rep that I would gladly pay to upgrade the card to a 580 or even accept a 480 as a replacement, but he advised me that either of those options would not be doable as they had no "stepup" program, and the 480 were no longer being stocked. I then requested that if possible could they upgrade me to a 580 to retain my business in the future, and the rep agreed to make an annotation on the RMA request.

Request went through and behold, a new 580 came in the mail. It's worth a shot if this is the second time it's happened.
This is awesome. IDK why people rag on MSI CSRs. I've always had great experiences with them.

eVGA has by the far the best support, reps located in the US and not off sourced, warranty is still valid with overclocking, and they allow for all types of aftermarket cooling (DICE/LN2/Phase).

If you want to be a MSI fanboy troll somewhere else.

Can you contact EVGA Support and tell them what happened? Another card will be shipped out to you ASAP.

The guy I spoke to was less then 2 hours away here in California, we talked about the weather. "The best support" is subjective beyond words. I told the rep about my overclock and he said it was not an issue. I told him I removed the stock heatsink to examine the damage and he told me it was not an issue.

Maybe the biggest advantage EVGA offers is that they hoarde all of their software and only distribute it to EVGA customers, whereas MSI will let anyone use theirs. Truly disappointing MSI.

I'm sorry that eVGA doesn't give their own skinned software bundled with your MSI graphics card, highly sorry.

If you haven't noticed all of their software can be downloaded without the eVGA branding.

Pretty sad if your only gripe with a company is that they have their own skinned software.

Actually, I never said I had any gripes with EVGA as a company, it's the constant exultation by EVGA fans that this company somehow offers unmatchable customer service (as you suggested), and a product printed on the same circuit board somehow being superior, that I disagree with. Just take a look at the "Have you killed a GTX570" topic here. A majority of the dead cards are EVGA, so they're not adhering to some higher standard of engineering than any other company.

I'm just tired of the rampant bandwagoneering in favor of EVGA products and the constant demonization of MSI as being some "heartless outsourced corporation". If you're looking for evidence refuting those claims, just take a look right here in the Nvidia forums of overclock.net. Chat up the EVGA rep sometimes. Oh wait, I've never seen him, whereas MSI rep Alex posts here all the time.

I can understand the appeal of feeling like you're being the underdog by buying products from a company that commands much less capital and has it's business structure based on a much smaller scale production base, and do feel the quality of EVGA products (mainly motherboards) is pretty good, but I just can't see why the EVGA fervor is so rampant on this particular forum.

Maybe I'm just wearing blinders due to the excellent experience I've had wth MSI, but I see way more good feedback about MSI support then I do negative.
