Help with external hdd

When i connect both my external usb hdd to Windows 7 Ultimate x64, it does not show up anywhere, but the harddrive is spinning in its case. Its not detected in hardware management either...

Are you using the correct cable? All the externals I have used come with a dual usb to single usb cable to supply sufficient power.
