Well i think its the best thing to do to make my computer faster/less lag with games, heres the specs of current-

Windows vista premium
4Gb of ram
Amd phenom 9150e quad core processor
Ati radeon hd 3200 graphics card

Im thinking of getting this first-

But will it work with my computer without changing the power supply/mother board.

What model is your PC?
You've really included no details that would allow us to assist you.

Also, the integrated GPU is likely holding your PC back in gaming more than that CPU.

Thanks
What kind of games are you trying to play?

Certain games are more CPU biased, and certain games are more GPU biased.
That may influence your decision on which component to examine first.

While I agree that the integrated graphics are definitely bogging you down on games, those first gen phenom processors were terrible. The processor that you're thinking about picking up is a good choice but we need to know what motherboard you're using to see if it's compatible with that processor. Also, a big advantage to buying the 555 from AMD is that you can unlock the other 2 cores on the chip to make it a quad core but that relies on the board having the unlock capabilities.

Need more info plox

Well you have a 780g motherboard that has an AM2/AM2+ socket. The phenom II x2 555 needs an AM3 socket so it looks like you're out of luck there unless you upgrade your board. If you don't want to upgrade the board then your only real option to increase your performance in games is to upgrade the video card.

The Phenom II 555 has a ddr2 memory controller aswell, so it can indeed work in an AM2, AM2+ socket.
