[UberGizmo] Windows 7 finally overtakes Windows XP’s market share - Page 14

This is an old quote of which the source i am unsure.

Quote:
One of the biggest problems I've found (and I am not accusing you of this, it is a general observation I've seen repeated many times over the years) with moving to a new operating system or application is the "power" user. The novice user and the expert user generally don't have any problems moving from one OS to another, they just get on with it and they pick up the changes pretty quickly.

The "power" user, on the other hand, has taught himself a few "smart tricks" to make himself look like an expert. Somebody who people come to when they have problems. They don't understand the basics of how an operating system work, or how a particular type of application works, they know how to tweak a particular version, which makes them look good.

They are scared about moving to a new OS, package or version, because they will go from "power" user to "normal" user, until they learn the tips and tricks for the new version and that represents a loss of face, until they have found a source of useful tips-and-tricks on the internet or in a magazine.

This group of users are often very hostile to new versions of applications, whether they are better or not.
I found that this rang true with the Vista haters.

The same people who love 7 and hated Vista when they are almost the exact same thing.

The most important change made between Vista and Win 7?

Bearing in mind they are almost identical:

The minimum spec released for Vista was 512mb ram and OEM's sold it with 512, with 7 it was upped to 1024mb.

Almost identical? Sit down, Vista takes 95 secs to load. Win7, 17secs.
Vista will never have DX11 will it? Just say NO. IMHO DX11 alone is worth it.

I did not hate Vista.

Im sat comfortably thanks.

Vista has DX11....

Load time is probably the worst measurement of how good an OS is i have ever heard of.

Vista already has DX11 via an update from MS.

except that vista crashes and it's buggy as hell . That makes win 7 much better than Vista. Win 7 is a very stable os. I'm kinda scared if win 8 won't be as stable

While this may be your experience of Vista and i do not wish to suggest your opinion is invalid this is not my experience of using or supporting Vista.

For me it was a great leap ahead in stability over XP and even more so when it came to supporting it. The only two issues i ever came across with Vista are as above, OEM's selling it with 512mb of ram which was not enough and slow driver support from third parties.

Awesome news for MS. Lets us hope that Win8 is just as successful. I should imagine it will be.
