Quick question though, out of those four (including the one above) which one would you recommend? I'm comparing them, and there doesn't seem to be too huge of a difference between them, except for that last one you linked and the one I had looked at about a week ago (both non-modular, and they're actually both the same from what it looks like).

The 580 cards aren't for this PC, they're for a PC I'm building sometime in May.

Not a bad idea at all - as long as you space them out properly and make sure your case has good air flow I would not stack them on each other as that makes one of the cards hotter than the other

I'm still undecided on the gpu obviously, but I'm leaning more towards x2 580s now after this thread. I'm also thinking about getting one of those 850 PSUs listed above (possibly a 950 one to be safe), and one of those Corsair H70 heatsinks too. I'm not sure if I'm going to have enough space for a sound card though if I go x2 580s, but if I do, I thought about getting one as well.

Yeah, the top card would be taking in all of the hot air the bottom card would be putting out. That's what I'm worried about if I get two of those 3-slot-cooler ASUS cards, since I wouldn't be able to space them out at all.

Ah, nice. I'll definitely go with one of those 850 ones then. Still on the fence about which one to get, though that HX850 one is one that I've been looking at for awhile now, but I think they released a V2 of it.

Also, I'm glad to hear your 580s run great. The pair you have now are actually a pair I've been thinking about getting (as I mentioned before, those MSI versions have a really nice factory OC on them, and stock cooler). Are you using the stock cooler for them? If so, how are your temps?

If it were me I would get two of the MSI Lightning cards. They will overclock better than the ASUS version because of the robust power circuitry that they have. Also, one more power supply to consider is this one. I am a bit partial to Seasonic PSUs, but they have always worked great for me.

From what I've heard the HX's are being discontinued and Corsair are relying on the AX versions. The V2 is for the TX versions (non-modular). Seasonic makes the AX850 and its probably the same unit as Drewlander linked to. Channel Well Technology makes the HX850.

If I had to choose I would take the HX850 (I did). It has the best ripple supression of probably any unit (they are all excellent anyway) and has 6 8-pin PCIe cables if you want to go the MSI 480 TFIII route. You can't go wrong with any of those PSUs.

As far as motherboards for dual 3 slot cards go, you will want a space in between the cards for airflow. Something like this Gigabyte http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128480 or this ASUS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131714. I don't know anything about those boards but the spacing is correct. You will also need a case with 8 PCI slots so the bottom card has breathing room above the PSU. Or you can get a case that can top mount the PSU. Obviously you will need some good airflow because these cards dump heat into the case. And you will want some sort of airflow between the cards. Either a side mounted case fan or an HDD bay duct fan.

2 slot cards are much easier to plan for. Especially if you want a soundcard.
