Thinking of becoming a FORMER ATI user...

Thread Starter
I dig the AMD processors like nobody's business, but have mad respect for Intels (the price is what steers me to AMD) and I've never had any issues with their processors. For the longest time I've felt I owed them my allegiance when it comes to graphics cards as well, but I think my stance will be changing quite soon.

My XFX 5770 was a great card for a while and did good with the games I played in the past (WoW and such), but drivers have ALWAYS been an issue for my ATI cards. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I tried running Dragon Age 2 and I was just getting a black screen when gameplay started. After that, I did a display driver update and updated the ATI stream stuff too....now my PC blue screens when I try and run DA2. It also freaks out and crashes when I try and play various games on Steam (DA:Origins, Force Unleashed...hell, even Quake 3 Arena Demo). Every time, its a driver issue at the root of the problem.

Am I in for much of the same with Nvidia or have I just now realized what I should have a loonnnnng time ago? Now I just have to work up some freakin cash to pay for a decent Nvidia card...gotta wait til school's out in the summer and I can work more

From what I've seen, Nvidia usually has better drivers, and the 5 series is a big improvement over the 4 series. The cost difference between AMD and Nvidia seems to have decreased, so if you think slightly more stable drivers are worth $20, go for it.

I have never used an ATI card. Always stuck to nVidia and I have personally never, ever encountered any driver issues (apart for DA2, which I don't play anyway). Atleast driver-wise, I think nVidia cards will be nice for you.

Go green. If you're running with a 5770, you're probably more budget-conscious, correct? A GTX 460, or 560 if you can pull the money together, will keep you happy.

Thanks for the support (although I figured in here I would get more support than the ATI forum lol). It's reassuring to hear some positive kickback on the drivers, because that has been such a headache for so long. As soon as college lets out I'm gonna hit newegg like nobody's business, getting a new mobo so I can SLI when money permits.

The 560 is looking like the right choice for me in the near future, plus an SLI board means I can grab another when the price drops for them. It will be nice to install all the Nvidia drivers and PhysX software without having to worry about my system dying every time I sneeze the wrong way lol

Wow did you really encounter that much of a problem with the ATI drivers ?
I myself am considering switching from Nvidia to ATI ...I have heard that ATI wasn´t always on top of the drivers but is it really that bad?
All I know from my experience with Nvidia is that their drivers always come months later than the games and applications they were actually intended for^^But driver issues to this extent are unknown to me with Nvidia..

Bottom line...ATI/AMD has better hardware, Nvidia has better drivers. Pick the one that matters to you most.

Pebcak.Going to nVidia because you are blaming your issues on AMD.Go ahead and go green,99% of "driver" issues are bad installs, corrupted registries etc.Now if you say you want an nVidia card for whatever reason-fine,they work great.Getting real tired of these flame-bait threads.

Um....if you are really having that much trouble with them, I really don't think it is the driver.
Kung Pow, no it really isn't that bad. Heck, I never ran into a single problem at all, people like to blow the issue out of proportion, or blame the drivers for a different issue.

And you asked this question in a Nvidia forum......what answer did you seriously expect to get?
