Safe and Unusual overclock?

Thread Starter
Let me first start off by stating my system and overclock:
  • 955BE C3 Overclocked 4.2Ghz(200x21 Multiplier) @1.475v
  • Northbridge @2800Mhz @1.300v
  • Memory @stock everything (9-9-9-24-1t) 8Gb's Ripsaw
  • Rasa 750 Triple Radiator watercooling for CPU only

Here is a picture of Prime95 running for 1 hour and being stable:
Attachment 204741

Basically I had a couple questions:

1. Is it normal for a 955BE C3 to be stable at 1.475v at 4.2Ghz? I was surprised it lasted one hour (I had to turn of prime95 to do something on my computer).

2. Assuming this overclock is stable for a few hours in Prime, is it safe to do this with these current voltages and settings?

3. I tried upping my Northbridge to 3000Mhz when my CPU was 4.0Ghz but even at 1.450v CPU/NB voltage it wasn't stable and making me nervous to raise it over 1.400v for the CPU/NB. I thought I heard I wouldn't want to go over 1.400v for the CPU/NB but I wasn't 100% positive.

Looks like you got a great cpu. As long as it isnt over 1.5v you can run that forever.

Alrighty awesome, I am still surprised it was stable for even an hour tho, I saw the volts fluctuating to 1.49 even tho it was set at 1.475, but no errors or anything. I really wish I could push my NB up to 3000Mhz but I really wasn't sure about going over 1.400v CPU/NB ><

I wouldn't bother going for 3000mhz NB, 2600 is the sweet spot for 4.2ghz. This article explains why http://www.overclockers.com/the-impo...the-phenom-ii/

Hmm that is an interesting article. It was always my understanding that 200Mhz NB > 200Mhz CPU speed. So should I lower my NB to 2600? I mean I'm not having any stability issues at the moment. I guess if I lowered my NB to 2600 I could lower my cpu/NB voltage to 1.200v again, but my temps are not an issue at all. Hmmmmm

Let me correct you on one thing. I ran my CPU on 1.5v @ 4GHZ for a while and it was safe. As long as you have proper cooling than the voltage and temperates don't matter.

Let me correct you.... Running a cpu at over 1.6v will hurt it no matter what the temps are. I happen to have a chip that stays under 40C while at 1.6v @ 4ghz but it is not safe to run it at that for more then a few benches because it degrades the chip much faster...

1.475v @4.2Ghz shouldn't cause abnormal degradation should it? I've had prime95 on for 3 hours with no errors so far.

no it won't cause abnormal degradation calm down. in fact if 4.2 doesn't pass prime for 16 hours or more i'd raise the volts and test again.

1 hour isn't long enough to call it stable however it looks like you got a good chip there. Like mentioned above you are good as far as your volts are concerned. As long as your overclock is stable and temps are low don't worry. I just personally wouldn't go over 1.5v.
