At $100, if bass if a big factor, the M-50's are going to be your best bet. You will not need an amp since the M-50's are only 32 Ohm's. Anything under 100 Ohm's would be fine to drive on your sound card alone.

Haha ingenious, I'll keep that in mind if I find them too tight.

And gaming I'm not too concerned about, these will purely be for music
They're not overpowering in the bass department, (which some people will percieve to be not enough). There's always the equalizer for that, though. I came from the Sony MDR XB500, which drowned out everything in bass. Eventually I got used to the clarity of the bass, and now I can't go back to the Sony phones.

The burn in time varies, for me, the sound stopped changing at around 1 week of heavy use.

Consider getting the coiled cable version. My straight cable version is way longer than I thought they would be. Also, I think the coiled ones are cheaper at the moment on Amazon.

technically wrong but as a general rule ok. But yes, the M50 is a safe good bet.

Im not going on technicality. Im just trying to get my point across. I apologize that the 100 Ohm information was incorrect. I was simply trying to state that the sound card, even on board, would be able to drive 100 and less. Now, they might not sound the best, but they will still output audio.

Right now I'm using Able Planet NC500TF, are the ATH-M50's gonna blow them out of the water?

For regular use they'd be powered by my phone, and for the computer, I only have onboard, no dedicated. Should I consider a small portable amp?

Around one week? Sounds good

Thanks for the heads up! Is the only difference between the 50 and the 50s the cable?

It's not the ohms (resistance) that matters in driving audio equipment, it's the sensitivity in dB/mW. For headphones, anything 98 dB/mW and above is pretty safe without a need for additional dedicated amping. Resistance matters, but not as much as sensitivity.

the M50 = coiled cable, M50S = straight cable otherwise no difference.

100 hours is the burn in period standard.

Many ways to burn in headphones. Listen to wide variety of music for around 100-200 hours. Listen to them at a bit above comfortable listening volume.

Or play pink noise on them for 100 hours. Pink noise i heard is the best choice due to it cycles through most frequency that a headphone will produce. from the deep bass to high trebles.

Most people dont bother due to headphones will break in naturally as you listen to them, but i like to listen to them before burning in, then after burn in to listen to the difference.

Rather than getting an amp, you should consider upgrading from on board sound. That'll be one of your largest improvements. It seems like you're not willing to spend a lot of money, but for 50 bucks you can score a Xonar DS and that'll be alot better than on board.

I honestly have no clue to what all that means haha. I'm really new to audio.

And that's what I was thinking. I spent about 10 minutes comparing stats and I'm like "What is the difference?! All I can see is that one has a coiled cable!"

I might just do the natural burn in since I'll be listening to them a lot haha. I'm excited! I've never had some good quality cans before.
