Building First HTPC Need some advice

Thread Starter
I am planning to build my first HTPC and i am going to try and use some the of the parts in my current sig the 5750 & 750w silencer but the rest are going to go as they might be overkill. (maybe keep mobo just replace cpu?)

I plan to watch, copy & burn blu-rays, play and stream music & movies, internet surfing.

So i need help with a selection of a mATX, CPU & RAM and possibly a case that accepts IR Signals so i can use my harmony remote or an adapter?

You can always buy a case that was made to be a htpc that can do full atx.
Cooler Master Elite 360.

then get something like this
Antec Mult-Station Basic Internal IR receiver and remote

The Q9450 might be overkill but it uses very little power. As I recall, at idle, it uses just a wee bit more than the E8400. Personally wouldn't bother changing it.

Frankly, I wouldn't change anything on your PC, even the case. That Lian Li looks darned pretty. You could always go with an external USB IR receiver. The new ones are pretty tiny and very discreet. I'm using the receiver from the Rosewill RRC-127 MCE Remote/IR combo ($16 on sale) with a Harmony 550.

I don't think it's on sale at the moment but both it and the RRC-126 go on sale regularly on Newegg (like every other week or something). Just check the Newegg newsletters. I got the RRC-127 for $16 when it went on sale last year. Worked quite well so I stocked up 3 of them on Black Friday last year @ $12.99 ea.

Looks good. Just make sure it fits. The PC-C33B is relatively big compared to most HTPC cases. Then again, not many of those support full ATX motherboards and a plethora of hard drives.

Yea your right its about 2 inches too deep

EDIT: After searching for a few hours it looks like im not going to find a full atx HTPC case that is less then 16" so im going to have to purchase a mATX MOBO unless someone knows a case or another option.
