Have no idea... (EQ)

Thread Starter
Screen shots of where my NOOB settings that i have played with and kinda stumbled on this setup as it sounds decent... i was going off of this information
http://productionadvice.co.uk/using-eq/

I found that 62 and 125 to be my BASS and 8 and 16k to be my main highs...

im just so frustrated as I will find a good setting than something random a advertisment or a different genre song or something will play and it will sound like ****.. its like each song or each .soundfile has to have its own EQ setting...

That is a guide for mixing songs (creating them). As a consumer, the main job of EQ would be to attempt to compensate for characteristics in your setup you disliked. Unless you have a specific reason to mess with stuff, leave your EQ flat.

Edit: What speakers/amplifier are you using, and why are you changing your soundcard? The titanium HD is a good card.

EQ is effectively a trade off for having poor quality speakers. However, when you have more budget equipment, it can be used well to enhance audio. Just raise each bar once at a time.

If you're buying high end audio equipment, then to be using EQ is awful! High end audio equipment should be able to re-produce music with a flat EQ and make it sound warm and lively. Also, you'd have to think about what you listen to. Mp3's don't sound good on high end equipment!

An EQ is used to boost poor audio equipment (such as the Z-2300's!). I had a pair myself and they aren't particularly good. I just use them on my PS3 now and have Wharfedale 9.1's/Acoustic Energy Neo V2 Sub on my PC. The Z2300's have just a tragic crossover frequency you wonder if the listening QA department were deaf.

I found that Z2300's need no more bass, but were helped when the high frequency noises on the EQ were increased a little.

The point of a high end sound card is not because of its EQ capabilities, it's because of the quality of the circuitry, the audio chip, and the DACs. Raising your EQ evenly across the board only makes the songs louder. EQ changes the sound, unless there is a specific aspect of your system you are unhappy with then why are you trying to change the sound?

Also make sure you run that card in audio creation mode.

Anyway, you don't have to listen, but I consider myself something of an amateur audiophile. I have a 3k sound system hooked up to my computer and did MONTHS of research before I put it together.

Edit:

One more thing, the Titanium HD is a goo card, a very good card in fact. If you are expecting a huge difference moving to the asus card you are in for a disappointment. While the Xonar is slightly more musical, it's quite close. If I were you my soundcard would not be my first upgrade.
