That EQ stuff you linked to is for recording albums, not listening to them. Best advice is to leave the EQ OFF, they've already balanced it when recording, don't go undoing their work.

Most people will tell you to leave your EQ flat, but I got bored of my EQ being flat and altered mine. I find that my music sounds 2-3 times as good as it did before. Here's where my settings are and others have done the same with their settings and almost everyone agrees that these settings rock. Maybe they might not be great for you, but give it a try. I find that they raise bass without muddying the music, they pull vocals out of the music and make everything crisp and clear.

Let me know what you think.

The point of an EQ in scenarios other than live/recording is to do two things.
1. Compensate for poor quality equipment.
2. Compensate for poor room acoustics.
Even with high end equipment the sound is not exactly reproduced. The room changes the sound a lot so even with a perfect Frequency response 100% flat what you hear at your ears is not 100% flat. I use a 12band parametric with my gear but i used a RTA mic to get the Response flat were i sit. So EQ on high end gear is fine although i dont care for software based eq's. Most home users dont need to set there's unless you like your music a certain way. Best bet if you want more bottom is to add a sub. If you want crisper highs just boost them a little not a lot. Smaller changes tend to vary a lot less from song to song.

Wow that's some pretty heavy EQing. I'm a bit skeptical but I'm going to try these settings out anyway.

OP: Try not to double post

Looks dramatic. I know. I was like I think I'm doing it wrong, but it sounds best to me for my equipment and needs/preferences. Let me know what you think.

Well for me it looks a bit....insane, but honestly, sound is subjective. Running EQ like that you're defiantly not hearing music "as the creator intended" but that's not necessarily a bad thing. If stuff sounds better to you like that, then more power to you. The bottom line with audio is do what sounds best to you.

Also, OP, if you decide to try my EQ, keep in mind yours goes from +12 to -12. Mine's scaled +20 to -20 so it won't look the same.

Best way to see what's best is raising it from top to bottom one by one and going back and forth and changing each one to get it to however you like.

so much fail. you shouldnt be using eq if you dont understand it, it just sounds better to you because turning up sliders makes it louder, louder doesnt = better, using a guide from the internet that claims to have the "perfect eq" is the biggest load of fail ever, there is no logic behind it at all, different speakers and different rooms require different eq. just leave it on flat

edit: that last eq setup posted is ridiculous, unless your speakers are made of turd then you shouldnt need to be making adjustments of a few db, not 20... fail

it might sound better to you but its still going to sound completely wrong compared to how it was recorded

edit 2: just tried that eq setup for a laugh, unbelievable.... how can that possibly sound good through anything...

^^Best advice in this thread to this point.

Everyone seems to have a vendetta against changing EQ settings when there are plenty of reasons to adjust it even with high-end equipment. I'm really just reiterating darthspartan's post but 99% of computer users are not going to have high-end speakers, so adjusting the EQ almost becomes a must.

Even if you do have high-end speakers you still might need to adjust it a bit. I have my EQ tailored to sound a certain way when I'm sitting in my computer chair. However if I get up and move around the sound changes quite drastically. Its nice to have something to tune the sound to the way you want it in a particular space in the room.

Lets not forget that people have different tastes in the way their music sounds. God forbid if someone moved up the bass or treble sliders a bit to tune the sound a certain way. People are generally correct in saying adjusting the EQ compensates for poor audio equipment but don't act like the world is about to end if someone likes to hear their music differently than you do.

For kicks, here is my EQ.
