AC: Brotherhood. Fair/low FPS, low hw usage?

Thread Starter
Please help.

Outside, FPS can drop as low as 30.

CPU usage on each core does not go above 60-70% and GPUs are in the 60% at most.

Why can't the fps be higher (like 60)? What is bottlenecking?

PS: I tried AssassinsCreedIIGame.exe profile in radeon pro and and combination of TripleB and Vsync on and off. No success.

Edit: Res is 1360x768, maxed out and 8MSAA

i had very good performance on AC:B to start off.
Then i changed some settings on CCC that apparently made "nfs shift 2" run better, which it did.
But it made AC:B unplayable, i went from constant 50-60 FPS to constant 5-12 FPS.

i opened up CCC again and had everything set to default, and now it works good again.

give it a try
hope it helps

Crossfire problem, try rename your .exe to "AssassinsCreedIIGame.exe"
Or try download a crossfire profile.
If all fails just disable crossfire, the game is not that intensive.

Thanks for the information.

I tried to use the ACII name already.
@Breakdown, what specifically did you change in CCC.

Probably anti-aliasing type in CCC. Change that to multisampling if it is supersampling or adaptive. Realized this myself, I wasn't even forcing any AA and yet it substitutes the game's AA technique with this setting.

Also, disable the ingame vsync and force it via CCC or something. It seems to only be double buffered in ACB, meaning you'll lose frames if it can't maintain 60fps all of the time.

You could disable crossfire; a single 6870 can run this game at 60fps at that res.

Another thing to try is set ACSP.exe's affinity to only four cores, rather than the default 6. There could be optimization problems with 6 core processors. Though unlikely, AC2 was a complete mess with quad cores much the same way.

I changed the settings to this ones making my frames drop from 50-60 to a max of 12, im not sure what caused this to happen.

The configuration i have now makes AC:B run smoothly again, i believe its the default settings for CCC, anyhow the configuration is as follows:

SMOOTHVISION HD: Anti-Aliasing is set to "Level" and "Box" under filter, i also have "use application settings" enabled.

Anisotropic Flitering
is set to "16X" and use application settings enabled.

Catalyst A.I is enabled and set to "standard"

Mipmap Detail Level is set to "high quality"

Wait for vertical ferfesh is set to "off, unless aplication specifies"

Adaptative Anti-Aliasing is set to "quality" although its not enabled.

"triple buffering" under OpenGL Settings is not enabled.

-------

Hope it helps

EDIT: you should take advice from the other people who posted, they surely know more about the matter than myself.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

I tried, with no luck:

- No in-game vsync. Forced vsync, force TB (with radeon pro).
- No vsync at all.
- Four cores only.
- Defaul CCC settings.
- CFX disabled (as low as 28fps, only 5-7fps lower than with CFX enabled)

I guess PC gaming implies spending more time trying to make game work properly than actually playing them.

What driver version are you using? Try 11.3 with CAPS1. Or maybe 11.4 beta will fix the issue.

Good point. Should have said it before.

I am using 11.4 preview (early march) and 11.3 CAP2.

Looks like CFX isn't working perfectly like 50% of the time. I should have bought a 6970 or a 580.

Edit:
Quote:
Let me double check - but I think the AC Brotherhood fix is actually included (try out the Catalyst 11.3 CAP2 ) - if not then next week
http://twitter.com/CatalystCreator

Guess next week it will be for 6870 CFX users.
