Should I sell my Macbook Pro 13 inch and get a Alienware M11x? - Page 2

sell MBP
buy a Acer 4820TG or 3820TG

make sure you choose the i5 and the 5650M/6550M
profit!
switchable graphics
ability to overclock both GPU and CPU (not guaranteed on CPU, you can if your lucky wink.gif)

best of all, its cheap and you should be able to afford it

Both are priced highly for aesthetics.

Well I need it to have at least a 6-7 hour battery life for use at school, so that's why I thought the M11x would be a good option. The MBP had 10 hour battery, that is why I bought it.

real life of 6-7hours on the 4820/3820TG

switchable graphics to the IGP on the i5

check out the owners lounge on NBR: http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer...rs-lounge.html

and the CPU is way batter on the 4820/3820TG
won't really bottleneck any games unlike the ULV CPU on the M11x

I would wait a little bit until Alienware releases the newer m11x with Sandy Bridge.

And your 13" MacBook gets 3 more hours of battery life than my 13" MacBook? I don't think so. I'd take a Core i5 and Intel graphics over a Core 2 Duo any day, but that's just what looks for me.

Ebay is a great place to look though, I almost bought a m11x there instead of a MacBook because someone was selling an i7 one for $900.

IIRC Apple has revised their battery test to reflect better real world usage. I'm pretty sure the 2011 model has better battery life than the 2010 model.

I found this website as a good comparison on battery life / FPS.

You'll also want to look up what the M11x (or whatever laptop you buy) actually gets for battery life in a real world scenario.
