First Time Builder - Advice?

Thread Starter
Working on a "budget" SB build. First build, first desktop. Parts:

i5 2400 ($190)
Asus P8P67-M ($120)
G.SKill Ripjaws X 1333Mhz 7-7-7-21 ($45)
Asus HD 6850 ($150)
WDC Black 500GB 32MB 6Gb/s ($45)
Antec TP-650 80+ Bronze Modular ($70)
CM HAF 912 ($50)
Asus 24X DVD ($20)
CM Blade Master 120mm Fan for exhaust ($7)
...Total after taxes ~ $780

So total I will have 3 fans (1 intake and 2 exhaust) for the case + the CPU cooler. Will this provide adequate airflow?

Note: The RAM I picked is F3-10666CL7D-4GBXH (black/blue heatsink). I originally picked the red 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 one (F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL) but I decided to save money and go with the mATX MB so going with the 1333 instead.

Note2: I know, HDD + Sata 6Gb/s makes no difference. But the Sata 3Gb/s version is $7 more, so what the heck, they are backwards compatible anyways.

Any advice before the end of the month? I hope to get "inexpensive" parts, as in low price and good quality, not "cheap" parts.

Can't wait for May so I can go back home and get this started!

Well it depends... if you want raw performance you could get something more powerful with an AMD build + overclocks. Although I am completely biased

I originally was planning on 955 and M4A79XTD EVO, but that build ended up being just a little over $700. So I think the 2400 is better in value, $80 more for 1.5x the performance.

Yeah I indicated that I'm not a OC`er.
At first I was contemplating on the 2500K since everybody says it's great, but the stock performance of it compared with the 2400 makes no difference to me. And I'm a complete computer noob so I don't want to mess with BIOS. Maybe few years down the road when I'm working and have the money, I'll build a beast computer and learn to OC but not now. I really don't need that extra performance, and I don't want to spend anymore money on coolers, etc. I'm on a strict $800 budget (the PC is already $780, and the last $20 going to speakers)

I understand the name of this forum, but I'm sure there's tons of noobs like me leeching info and getting advice ;D

Oh but when you learn more later and develop an itch and want to eek out a little performance, you'll kick yourself later.

I don't think so :S at least not for next 2-3 years
I am using a netbook for school (EeePC 1015PEM) and I've been using laptops all my life, so this is already a big jump in performance for me.
Few years down the road when I am in a better financial position I will consider taking another big jump into OC as well as whatever crazy CPU is going to be released in the next few years.

What do you mean? 2500K vs 2400? Isn't that just 0.2GHz of a speed difference? As well, if I get the 2500K I'd need a better MB and cpu cooler, which total up to about $100 more after taxes :S That's 12.5% over my budget.

Like I said, I'm on a STRICT $800 budget.... :S
