For you GTX 580 SLI users and abusers...

Thread Starter
I'm currently running a single Evga GTX 580 SC in my new rig i had recently just built...still not getting the frames i want in Metro 2033 and other Comp killers that have been having us curse out our comps to GOOO FASSTTERRR heeeeave hoooo...so my question is...im only using a single monitor as of now (1920x1080)..not saying 3d vision wont be coming in my near future..but is it still worth it to get another one at this point or should i just hold out with the single card till Win8 pci express 3.0, dx12 gtx 6xx start rolling out. and SLI the next..or will these 580s be able to live long and prosper! thanks guys...just need to know if i should pull the trigger with another newegg order...EVGA GTX 580 SC and a Corsair AX1200 PSU....

The AX1200 would be a waste of money because even their HX850 has absolutely enough to power a system with two 580s in it.

Anyway, if you're not getting the performance you want, then I think a 2nd GTX 580 is in order.

Wait until nvidia's next series. It's supposed to be like 3x the performance per watt that fermi is. For me, at 1920x1200 with a gtx 480, I can max out every game with 60fps except for crysis and metro 2033, so will paying an extra $500 to get 60 fps in 2 games be worth the money? I think not. Actual, in metro 2033 my fps sometimes go down to 17 fps, so I doubt you'll get 60

Two 580s should be more than enough for the near future games.
Metro 2033 is a "special" case, the same as crysis (first not the second), which require a lot more than every other game.

With 4x580s OCed pretty high, I am still hard pressed to reach 70 FPS with physx and everything maxed out on a single 1920X1200 monitor.

For just one game, its not worth it.
Every other game can be easily man-handled by two 580s, and most of the time in 3D as well. Maybe fully maxed out with 400xAA, but with 2xAA 3D can be well handled.

Yeah the reason why I ask about the psu is because it will be two factory overclocked evga plus I planned on overclocking them more as well plus im currently at 4.4ghz with my 2600k and plan to go higher and add more fans and what not so I was making sure the 1200w will give me the headroom I need...but if the 850w cam handle it then awesome...and also if I were to get another gtx580 because i don't feel like waiting for the Kepler cards is selling a gtx580 when I want to upgrade easy or difficult because I never tried selling my cards...I also never paid $500 for one usually bought the 560 or 570 type never went big..this time I did
