They are faster on some level,s like doWnload speeds. But they are slower in respect to read write speeds,wich if your using it for your OS is better!
IMO if your using a hdd for your OS use a WD over F3 ! I f its for storage and you want to save money, go with the samsung!
Truth be told this could have happend with any drive ( could have been dropped or dammaged in transit!)
I haven't seen the latest benchmarks for WD, but I am more than impressed with my 1TB F3's speed. I wrote 400GB sequentially (about 10 or 11 files total) to the F3 at 114MB/s. That's the READ speed of my Seagate.
I also have two 2TB F3s that have been running in RAID 0 in my media server for about 8 months with no issues and good performance.
Dkillett: I'm sorry to hear you got a bad drive. Fortunately, it failed long before you put any serious data on it. The general rule of thumb is if a drive can last 90 days, it'll last 5 years.
