This link was probably posted before me but I'll post it anyway:
Official Asus Announcement on AM3+ Support for Current AM3 Motherboards
I myself asked them via e-mail for my particular Asus Crosshair IV Formula (revision and serial number were provided in my e-mail) and they confirmed I'll be able to run AM3+ AMD Bulldozer CPUs (they specifically mentioned AM3+
in their reply) with just a BIOS update.
Apparently MSI have followed suit. Gigabyte however, are releasing new motherboard revisions. I assume they wouldn't replace your older revision with a new one so you'd still need to buy a new motherboard (which sucks).
But anyway, I need to wait and see how AMD Bulldozer CPUs pan out overall, specifically on my current platform. I'm sure there will be many reviews with an Asus Crosshair IV Formula equipped with various AMD Bulldozer CPUs. I don't NEED
to upgrade what I currently have, but if I get great gains for just changing the CPU (and reselling my current one), I'm all for the upgrade. It would certainly push me away from Intel Ivy Bridge until Intel (and AMD?) come up with something even better.Edited by Gib007 - 4/11/11 at 10:04am
