Fermi keychain!

Thread Starter
Before anybody says it, yes I am an evil person for killing that poor Fermi card.. but it was already dead. ;D

Anyways, moving on. I had a "spare" dead GTX 465 lying around and one day I thought "Hey.. I need a keychain so why not make one out of the GF100 core on this dead card", and thus a great idea was born.

Here is the victim. I essentially got this card for free so there is no loss here for me.

I took it apart by ripping it off with some thing.. I forgot what it's called but it looked like this after.

Here is the IHS and GPU togather as they are on the PCB. Once I had removed the GPU they did split.

The underside of the IHS had loads of TIM in it.. it was kind of messy and annoying to clean. :/

And here is what the actual core looks like. Unlike the Radeon GPUs there are no markings on this one. I'm guessing this is because they are on the IHS. Forgive the poor picture.

Now I need to get the drill and make a hole in the corner. I'll glue the IHS back with the GPU because I think it looks nicer this way. I also need to sand the bottom side of the GPU to smooth out/remove the pins and whatnot. I'll probably coat that side with something, maybe plastic so it doesn't feel so rough or anything and it will look nicer I think.

More to come soon..

What was wrong with it? could of you not baked it?

If you're going to put the core back on the IHS, you might as well just leave the core off altogther. Know one is going to know that there's actually a core under there. Drill out the heat spreader and be done with it.

Good idea I have a dead 280 that might get that same treatment. That is if I can't get the poor thing working again.

Nope, bake didn't work. It was completely dead, I got money back on this but asked if I could keep the card for a small price.

Yea that would be the same but I kind of want the core with it.

Yea if you can't get it to work and can't RMA and it's just waste then may as well. This will go nicely with my keys.

Always enjoyed doing this with my old dead cards and CPUs. Can't even tell you how many times people have noticed that strange thing on my keys and upon finding out what it is asking for one themselves. Did a rather nice job of converting it to a key chain token Razi3l. Well done sir
