Looking for the "BEST" Headset

Thread Starter
Since my Roccat Kave broke, I'm looking to replace it.

I loved the Roccat Kave, despite everyone flaming it because it's a 5.1 headset. It sounded great as it was the first "real" headset I have owned.

I'm looking to replace it. Now, before I start I know many of you will recommend something like the ATH-A700's with a Zalman clip on mic. This is probably a good way to go, But I just don't want the hassle of having two wires (one for headphones and one for the mic) running around everywhere. So before you reply please keep this in mind.

I'm looking for the absolute best headset you can buy. Best audio quality, best mic quality. I'm aware that there aren't a great deal of high end headsets to choose from and I didn't have much luck searching for one. I'm after the best because I assume that the "best" headset will be equal to a very decent pair of standalone headphones.

Cheers.

If you want the best you need a real set of headphones with a clip on mic no exceptions.

Your going to have two different cables at the end unless its usb either way.

being totally honest here.. why not just stick a few zipties on the cables if its that big of a deal?..

And your assumption is dead wrong.

I would suggest a pair of Sennheiser PC360's or Beyerdynamic MMX 300's.

Alternatively, you could buy a clip on mic and headphones and sleeve the cables together?

One thing that often gets left off of the 'bashing' of 5.1/USB/Fatality stuff is that the products themselves are not inherently bad. The ripoff comes when you attach a price to the product. So a $350 USB gaming headset is probably a decent set of cans...for $75. If you don't mind paying the premium, I highly doubt you'll hate how they sound.

The Sennheiser 350s linked a few posts up are a decent choice. However, since you didn't specify a price point, I'm sure there are plenty of options for quite a bit more money.

Alternatively consider the PC 360. However take into consideration that the HD 595 drivers are implemented in the PC 350.

Yeah I'm not too bothered about the price. All I'm asking is what is the best headset you can buy? I don't care for clip on mics as the way I see it is that the mic as part of the package. You wouldn't have a clip on analogue stick for a controller, would you? Call me narrow minded or what, but that's what I want.

So as far as sound quality is concerned, the 350's are better than the 360's?
