Q9300 confusing me

Thread Starter
I just got a used EP45-UD3R from my friend last night (He got a 2600K...), so I rebuilt the computer with it and now I'm trying to overclock my Q9300 higher than I could with my old cheapo Asus mobo. My goal is a 1Ghz OC, so 3.5Ghz.

Last night I played it with for less than 5 minutes and I got a stable 3.5. I checked with Intel Burn Test.

This morning I tried pushing it to 3.75, but I gave up on that because it wasn't stable at any settings. Now I'm back to 3.5 at the same settings I had last night, but it fails Prime95 almost instantly. Usually one worker will stay working, but the other three have a fatal rounding error. The temps never go above 70C.

I've tried pushing the Vcore up, as high as 1.38, but it didn't help. I also tried turning loadline calibration on and off, pushing the memory voltage, and pushing the NB voltage.

Am I missing something? How can I achieve a stable 3.5Ghz OC?
Push the vcore higher also increase vtt by a notch and increase CPU termination to around 1.28-1.32

Up mch to 1.3

You can go to 1.45v (cpuz) on the 45nm core 2

Make sure your Ram is at 1:1 with the fsb. CPU ratio 7.

FSB termination 1.30
CPU reference .63
PLL 1.50
MCH 1.4
Northbridge 1.5

Also what are your memory timings?

1st: You'll need DDR2 1066. If yours is 800, you're screwed.

Look through this thread:

http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...ers-guide.html

I posted 2 BIOS settings in there, one moderate (480FSB) and one aggressive (506FSB). Others have as well, look for good ones that match your specs. If you're trying to use 4 sticks of RAM, talk to the other 4x guys in there.

At 3.5 you're up to 467FSB right? Time to start tweaking your board a bit. Try the set I have for Q8300 @ 480FSB:

http://www.overclock.net/13061781-post19324.html

You might need more or less VCore but the rest of the settings should hold if you're using 2 sticks of RAM.

You'll set the CPU/MCH references with VTT at 1.2, then raise VTT AFTER you set the reference voltages.

Hey i've got a gigabyte ep45-ud3l motherboard. 4 gigs of 800 mhz ram and a q9300. I was wondering what settings you have in your bios. Do you think you could post some screen shots of your whole thing so I could just copy it and try to tweak that so I can get something stable?

Or maybe there is somebody here that can lead me through this thing. I was able to get a 3.0 ghz overclock from 2.5 ghz on this chip but any higher and I just couldn't ever figure anything out to get something stable. Thanks!
