Installing spring clamps

Thread Starter
Hey all,

Does anyone have any advice on how to install metal spring clamps? I'm using clamps for 3/4" OD tubing, 1/2" ID barbs, and 1/2" ID 3/4" OD tubing, and I can't get the clamp to slide over the barb no matter what I do. I've been putting the clamp on the tubing, sliding the tubing over the barb, and then trying to move the clamp down over the barb. I'm using pliers and have the clamps open as far as they'll go. Is there a trick to this I'm missing?

I'm not exactly sure. I pretty much did the same thing as you did, put the clamps on tubing, tubing onto barb, then forced them open with pliers and kind of wiggled them onto the barb. I did notice, though that when I was re-doing my loop with different tubing, although they were both 1/2-3/4", one type of tubing was a little thicker than the other and took more coaxing to get the clamp onto the barb. You could try putting the clamps in hot water to make them a little more pliable? Not sure what else...

I tried hot water, wiggling, twisting...everything I could think of, and still only had partial success. I think I'm just gonna use worm drive clamps instead.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of tubing do you have?
