Considering a G13

Thread Starter
I have been using my G15 for a about 2.5 years now. Don't get me wrong, it is going strong. But I don't really use the LCD on it, since most newer games don't have the software to display the info on it (*cough* *cough* blizzard, do something for SC2!!!) But anyways, I have been considering a little gamepad for FPSs (BC2, Black Ops). Has anyone used used them for FPSs? how do they compair to just keyboard + mouse. I'm not a super competitive gamer, so something that will help me out only "slightly" is not going to be a selling point. Just curious if it would be a worth while investment. Also, how do these stand up in MMOs? Stopped playing Rift, thinking of starting WoW back up, and even possibly (gulp) Everquest (prob not though, because I do have some little bit of a life lol). Right now I am really just killing time before BF3 comes out, so I have been playing a lot of BC2.

I really enjoy my G13, it was quite an upgrade from the Saitek I was using. I use it on all my games which include shooters and mmo's along with my Naga. The thumbstick is really handy for all sorts of things such as leaning, a quick melee, etc in shooters. If you decide to get one keep an eye out for the Logitech scratch and dent sales. You can snag one for alot less than retail and if its like my G11 scratch and dent...will be brand new.

Isn't a G13 basically a small keyboard with a little analog thumbstick on it? Are you saying you want it for the stick? Other than the stick, it looks just like a keyboard with less keys.

And the game specific programs for G15 are crap, use this:
http://www.linkdata.se/software/lcdsirreal/

It links in with GPU-Z and fraps and other programs to display temps, CPU usage and temps, all on one screen. It's pretty sick.

I use my G13 in LOTRO and BC2(among others) and it works great. In LOTRO I have 3 layouts for different class skills which is really helpful.

I absolutely need my G13 to play FPS, otherwise I'm useless. I'm kind of sad because it seems really only useful for FPS/wasd games. For MMOs there aren't enough buttons where there would be the 1-6 buttons. Unless you remap the WASD keys one row lower, but it would be slightly awkward to use.

It is very comfortable to use, and easy to remember where keys are because of it's unique shape and indented WASD keys. My hands are small, so using the joystick is out.. instead I just remap it to keys that are rarely used, like switching seats in vehicles or something.

I bought a G13 a few years back and honestly it just wasn't for me, although that is entirely my fault for not giving it enough time to get used to it. It just felt too strange as I am so comfortable with a keyboard. Plus, i mostly play MMO's so missing the number keys, F keys, etc. just wasn't efficient.
