NVIDIA Control Panel thinks DVI to HDMI cable is HDMI

Thread Starter
My NVIDIA Control Panel thinks DVI to HDMI cable is only HDMI. I have it connected to my TV and it says that it is HDMI I think that is what is making it not have sound is there anyway to force to make it DVI? I want the TV to play sound because it is not right now because it thinks its HDMI. I have the ports in the back of the TV so the sound is plugged into RCA with a 3.5 to RCA cable. It worked before from another computer it was a 7300LE I think now I have a GeForce 210.

Update: I updated to 266.58 and it still says it is HDMI. I am also running on Windows XP.

Uh... you do know that DVI can't carry a sound signal right? Only an HDMI-HDMI cable can do that.

The above statement is false. The previous statement is true.

Yes I know that but I'm guessing its sending an HDMI signal maybe confused.gif (Don't know how) and it's cutting out the RCA audio.

You probably need to go under Sound properties in Control Panel and set the output to anything but HDMI.

This PC does not even have HDMI it is the connector detection/TV that is the problem.

Not true. My 52" is connected with a DVI to HDMI cable and sound works perfectly fine on the TV speakers. Nvidia installs a HD audio driver during installation.

Just make sure Win7 sound control panel playback device is set to your TV instead of the normal "speakers". DVI is essentially the same thing as HDMI without sound. If you convert it to HDMI, sound seems to work just fine.

Ah. You're right. Seems like the interface is capable and it has been expanded to do so.
