Building new system, video card and other suggestions? - Page 6

Just a few things I had to say, the reason the Hyper 212+ became so popular was because it cooled so well with a debut price of about $25 with free shipping. Since it became a top seller, retailers have raised the price on it and added shipping cost to make it around $40+ in most places making it not so bang for your buck anymore.

The Xigmatek Balder will outperform it as will some of the other $40 coolers that are out there.

As far as boot time with an SSD, don't set your expectations too high. I went from about 50 sec with a 250GB Seagate Barracuda to about 35 sec with my SSD.
The big advantage though, is that when you get to your desktop, everything is instantly usable without lag, unlike a regular HDD where you'll try to open up a web browser or other program and there will be a delay until it completely loads the OS.

That's good though.. I really don't care if the boot times are much faster, it'd just be nice, but being able to use the computer right as I got in would definitely be something I'd love.

Thanks for the info on the xigmatek, I've added it and I removed the hyper 212 plus.

Soo.. came time to order, and found out that my parents stole about $120, so I'm a little overbudget right now.. my question is, should I drop the SSD and order now, or wait until I can order all of it including the SSD?

Another thing.. since I leave my computer up pretty much 24/7, would I really notice the effects of an SSD at all using it for just the OS?

Anything on the SSD will open up faster. Meaning if it takes 10 seconds for Photoshop to load from a 7200rpm HDD, it will only take 1 second on an SSD.
Internet browsers will open before the left mouse button is pressed all the way down.

If you are a patient person then you can live without it. I'm a person who likes fast but my money doesn't grow from trees either so that's why I went for a value SSD at the time of purchase was $140 almost a year ago while all other 64GB SSD were near $200.

Well, I got a hold of enough money to order it all, placed order tuesday night or wednesday sometime, should be here tomorrow morning, cleaned my desk up all nice in preparation and found something to set my computer on so it's not sitting on the carpet.

Thanks so much for all the help, I'm really excited to put it all together and hopefully get it running!

Got it all setup, thought I'd share some.. so far I've not had issues in any games, staying capped at 60FPS with V-sync, but I've not tried anything very hard on it, can't download BFBC2 from steam, our internet has been disconnecting every 30 seconds for the last day or so Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

I have one question really, I overclocked to 4.5Ghz following this guide.
My cpu temps at idle are around 35-40C, under full load, maximum stress level of IntelBurnTest 2.50, they seem to stay around 65-70C .. is this a safe temperature, and is it normal for the Xigmatek Balder?
I may have installed it wrong, the instructions.. sucked, big time, and didn't even include anything for the 1155, and on top of that I don't know how well I did at applying the paste..

Haven't bothered overclocking or unlocking the 6950 yet, since I haven't really found the actual need to.

I can't believe how quiet this thing is compared to my other computer, I can hardly hear it at all, my other one, even idling.. sounds like a vacuum cleaner... (literally.. I can hear it even with headphones on and music playing)

Anyways, here are some pictures. Sorry for the weird rotation.. took from my phone, just came out that way when I put them on the computer.
