My system hangs for no reason

Hey guys, recently been playing a few games and my system hangs out of nowhere.
I listen to music and even after the "freeze", I still can move my mouse around and hear the music.

SSD ?
Motherboard ?
I tryed with everything not overclocked and everything overclocked and it still hangs once every 30-60 minutes.

Personally I think it's windows, but you can boot linux and see if the problem persists. Easy way to rule out hardware if you think that might be a possibility.

I will try it out tonight, thanks for the tip !
I might just go ahead and format, it will take somewhere between 7 and 10 minutes to accomplish.
I was suspecting windows too, since everything in my computer is basicly new, except for an hard drive and an optical drive.
I think I'ma just unplug the WD Caviar Black (2 years old) and check if does it again.
Because after all, it it not a BSOD, it's not CPU/RAM related and neither the gpu.
So it may only be a motherboard or an hard drive that cause it.
I also thought about the power supply, but still, a power outage would simply shut the computer down.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think we are on a good path now.
Anymore thoughts ?

so its not a hardlock? is the music playing normally or does it repeat the last few seconds over and over?

also, just cause it doesn't BSOD doesn't mean its not hardware related. have you ran memtest? have you ran any sort of disk checking utilities?

I was watching a movie and the it happened again, the guys on skype still heard me and we could still talk and the movie was still playing, but I couldn't click on anything there was that windows 7 waiting circle going on every window.

Just nothing responded.
cpu was about 10% load, gpu 6%.
Temps are all under 50's.
removed my "old" WD Caviar Black 640 didn't changed anything.

I'm suspecting the ram, I will try tonight.
