Thanks. How did you do it with only 1 bios on board? Did you capture it, edit it with rbeand then reflash it? Were you worried about bricking it?

I can confirm will unlock and overclock @ the same time with voltage control in Afterburner, however it won't overvolt in Trixx.
That one is my reference card of choice so far.

.)To answer my own question (in case it benefits anyone else) I picked up two Twin Frozr III's and I'm seeing 90c temps / 100% fan on the inside card. So no way these work for crossfire w/o some spacing between the cards.

I'm trying downclocking them now to reference 6950 speeds to see if that helps at all. So far after 5 min in BF2 the inside card is 79c (with the case open). Doesn't look good.

Unlockability:http://www.overclockers.com/forums/s...d.php?t=672911

Quote:
.)THIS CARD WON'T UNLOCK PERIOD!!! This is a non-reference card so sorry but you are COMPLETELY out of luck. This card uses a custom MSI PCB which improves overclocking but disables unlocking the GPU. There is only 1 BIOS, not 2. Sorry for the bad news, but this wasn't a secret that this card couldn't be unlocked so don't go blaming MSI. It will overclock though far so try to get it to 1ghz to make up for the lack of unlocking. The cooler is also much better.

.)You guys don't understand that a REFERENCE 2gb model is the ONLY 6950 that will unlock. No other will if it's 1gb or a non-reference card. It must look like this with 2gb of VRAM. Otherwise it won't unlock period.

.)This is incorrect information so please refer to my previous post. It all depends on if the GPU has been laser cut or not; results are mixed for non-reference and 1GB PCBs.

So according to the red colored statement of the thread not every card is bound to just unlock or not it is rather a bit of a gamble if the concerned card has been laser cut or not.
So there are branches that were and others that weren´t laser cut by AMD so the odds of any 6950 unlocking depens on the possibility of it having been laser cut or not...according to the thread.

But according to techpower up MSI does have a high unlocking probability due to their tested cards (although I am not sure the numbers shown in the picture include the Twin Frorz III).So is the statement coming from the thread nonsense?Or did techpowerup just review cards of a branch that just wasn´t laser cut?

King, I had found that same post you quote from the h and that's a big reason I started this post. I've been reading your other 6950 posts as well. I don't think i'll ever go that hardcore on my graphics. I'm actually starting to consider the $315 after rebate msi 6970. I could get an aftermarket cooler if its too loud.

These cards do not unlock. I have tried many ways, even this (flashdrive):

http://www.ocdrift.com/2011/04/msi-r...locking-guide/

I confirm similar problems with three such cards. OC is also weak, only 910MHz on the default (1.15v), on max (1.35v) 1030MHz in benchmarks but in games only 960MHz (1.275v) is stable.Model of my friend is even weaker (only 880MHz stable on default).I am disappointed with this card. The only good thing is cooler. Sorry for my english.

Well, of course a review should only be considered a guideline rather than an actual guarantee for your hardware to overclock equally as shown...but I strongly believe that a factory overclocked non ref Twin Frozr III exceeds 950core.
Actually due to the review the card hits 975 MHZ core and 1400 MHZ memory without any voltage tweaking at all.
And with a little bump in the voltage 1 GHZ core and above should easily be achieved.
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/M...zr_III/26.html

Overclocking with a non ref factory overclocked card should be no problem.

On the other hand I strongly believe that not every Twin Frozr III will be unlockable.
Due to the fact that it is a non ref there for newer design in which AMD had the chance to send in newer branches which already had been laser cut.
So it is a gamble with the non ref cards wheter you got one of the older branch or one of the newer ones which have been laser cut to prevent the unlockability.
So be aware.

I see what I have before me. I bought this card after an optimistic TPU review. Too optimistic (in my opinion).

I had the 2GB Twinfrozr II that could not unlock. Found out afterward that that it wasn't just my card that couldn't unlock. It went for all Twinfrozr II cards.

From reviews for the TFIII, I have read that they have the possibility of unlocking unlike it's predecessor.

TWIII has dual bios but ... not be unlocked. Not saying that all. Minimum 3 in Poland. Probably one here (nick - dumo):

The probability wheter or not it can be unlocked is decided by what branch of the Twin Frozr III you have.

Newer branches weren´t laser cut so they can be unlocked without any problem.
The newer branches on the other hand where shippied by AMD already aware of the unintended unlocking feature and of course laser cut the cards in order to cripple their unlockability.

So it is really a gamble what card you get.
But nontheless it is still the only card that overclocks to the max.
1 GHZ core can be achieved with no or very small voltage tweaks.
And also above 1 GHZ no problems appear.

It is by far the most popular card due to its specially designed voltage controller and overclocking efficiency enhancing strucure.

So even though the card won´t unlock the max oc it yields can compensate that fact at least to the triple
