Anyone Actually Own MSI 6950 Twin Frozr III And Unlock It? - Page 3

in theory yes, In practice, unfortunately, not. Like im said:

OC is also weak, only 910MHz on the default (1.15v), on max (1.35v) 1030MHz in benchmarks but in games only 960MHz (1.275v) is stable.Model of my friend is even weaker (only 880MHz stable on default).

Are you kidding?
That is a 30 MHZ increase ...I am not sure how much overclocking experience you have but for a non ref card ...especially considering the structurly enhanced architecture of the Twin Frozr III in order to increas overclocking efficiency that is ridiculous.

Every single Twin Frozr III is bound to hit 1 GHZ ...I know it is a bold statement but I am very confident of it!.

Unlockability is like a said a gamble if you got a laser cut card or not.
But considering the overall picture TF III is still the best 6950 there is,period.

Post some screens of your overclocking tool etc maybe we can figure out what is going wrong with your oc

Voltage in AfterBurner works only in "force constant voltage mod" (constant voltage for all modes - 2d/3d). Crysis 2, shift 2, worms reloaded crash (bsod, lockup, output to windows) after 5-10-15 etc. minutes even on 900mhz (default voltage). After raising the voltage is better but: crysis 2 artefacting over 970MHz (regardless of the voltage), shift 2 randomly lockup (regardles of the voltage). I had before 4890 vapor-x, and the referent 6950 (HIS with mod) and I know what I am doing (OC). My powersupply is corsair hx620.

"Every single Twin Frozr III is bound to hit 1 GHZ "

even 6970 lighting sometimes can not do that

i know - more phases, better chockes/coil (sorry for my english), military class 2 - marketing, nothing more (for me). Card looks great but, uh - not what I expected.

The Twin Frozr III is the best 6950 version in my oppinion, period.

And the more I read your posts the more I think there may be self infliction involved that inhibits the card of operating at its peak.

let me explain:

1.1040mhz stable (no crash or artifacts) in benchmarks (<1.35v>, 3dmark2006, vantage, 3dmark11), beautiful result at 3dmark 2011 almost 6200 (with i5 760 4.4GHz and catalyst 11.4)

2.games - 960mhz (1.25v - 1.3v) randomly freezes in shift 2, crysis 2, BBC2 (multi).

3.games - 900mhz, default voltage (1.15v) randomly freezes in games

> 932mhz (1.15v/default) crash in 3dmark2006 (forest fly)
> 942mhz (1.15v/default) crash in 3dmark2011 (first test)

4.games - 850mhz (default), voltage 1.15v (default) - no problem (so I think that the software (windows, drivers) is not a problem).

5.no chance for 6970 mod <unlock shaders> (after many hours trying)

6.tests with different settings power tune (0%-20%).

maybe my card is weak, maybe my bad luck, i don't know. This card is cool (even at 1.3v) and quiet but the OC is a nightmare. When I think too I have a stable 960mhz - crash. Card goes on sale, I have no patience for it.

Have you tried this method? I know that a couple of people on [H] reported that they were able to unlock the shaders on a Twin Frozr using this utility.

yes, I tried so many times. Does not work.
Even after loading and saving "unlocket bios" RBE said that i have "6970 shader count" but gpu z - 1408.
Theoretically the best method (flashdrive in DOS) - fail

http://www.ocdrift.com/2011/04/msi-r...locking-guide/

I stopped trusting msi.

Even a reference card can hit 1ghz easily im on 1ghz with 1.275v, gonna try later if i can get it stable on even lower voltage.

Didn´t say they couldn´t
Just that a Twin Frozr III is much more likely to hit 1 GHZ without even any voltage tuning....and that going above 1 GHZ also wasn´t a big deal!
