[Soved] Firefox 4 slow on GMA 965 Laptop - ideas?

Hey there, here's the short story. After upgrading a laptop from Firefox 3.6.x to 4.0 the laptop has slowed down while browsing. Compared to a Radeon 3450M laptop, it seems exactly those aspects that are related to eye-candy and supposedly accelerated by the GPU are slow on the GMA-laptop.

Now, up until now that laptop never felt slow according to the owner. Aero works well on Win 7 x86 SP1, as well as any other task except for gaming. Changing from Firefox to other browsers is not an option.

Any idea what's going on? Would it be possible to disable eye candy or hardware-accelerated features on FF4 if this is the culprit, or is there simply a known bug that will get ironed out?

Thanks

I have FF4 on 2 desktops a laptop and a netbook and I think it is faster than the previous versions. Ya might wanna check add-ons to see if something is not compatibly with FF4. If everything looks good including extensions. I think there is some guides about editing the FF4 kernel but I took a brief look at Google and I didn't see any that was really good.

I've got it smile.gif

Update: the main annoyance was that after launching a page (from bookmark or address bar) it took some 4-5 seconds for it to get going, meanwhile the tab was stuck. Jiggling the mouse would help shorten this 4-5 sec interval (thus it(s clearly a bug).

Solution : disable hardware acceleration (click here for guide) and restart firefox,. The last part is my contribution as I noticed that even though I disabled the hardware acceleration, that didn't change anything. Clearly FF must be restarted for that setting to be taken into account (another bug maybe?).

Cheers

*EDIT: 14 betas and it comes like this, I'm slightly disappointed. Maybe it's just this particular lappy that got fried though, but considering it has practically no plugin, there's no reason for FF not to see how slow GMA is; they should just disable HW/a on the spot on GMA and not on tab-to-tab or site-to-site basis.
