Guys thank u all for posting answers.
When i formatted the 3tb hdd i've formatted in GPT.The old drive has no data and i've given it to a friend of mine who is using it right now.
I got no jumpers on all my sata drives and i hope i recover my data cause i'm very dissapointed.I'm trying to have max size less hdd's that's why i bought that 3tb.
This 3tb hdd is installed on my sig rig system!frown.gif

NTFS supports much larger volumes than 2TB - that article is way out of date (the Win2000 references should have told you that). Even with the default cluster sizes you can have a single 16TB volume with NTFS, and more if you increase the cluster size from 4 up to 64KB.

The problem with windows 7 and 2 TB is with MBR drives (2 TB is limit for MBR drives).

Shouldn't the OP have been OK with w7 64bit and GTP?

These new fangled drives have gotten me confused.

In order to use a single disk (not a partition... a real hardware disk) bigger than 2.1 TB you need:

1) a controller capable to cope with disks bigger than 2.1 (Long LBA). It's reported that some HD controllers are not capable to manage disks bigger than 2.1 TB.
2) partition it using GPT (you need an UEFI motherboard only if you want boot from the hd. If the hd is used only for storage, every MB is ok).
3) format the partitions using a file system capable to cope with the size of the partitions; NTFS is ok for this.

I don't know if your MB integrated controller is capable to manage hd bigger than 2.1 TB. If NO, this is the problem and you need another MB or an additional controller.
If I remember correctly, WD is selling it's 3TB Green drive with an additional SATA controller for this reason.

...I forgot... you need also the 64bit new Windows (vista or Seven) or Linux.

Nope - you just need XP SP1 or newer (32 or 64 bit).

Almost - I was wrong about the 32 bit versions of XP, but 64 bit XP can read disks up to 256TB (my memory obviously isn't what it used to be). Vista 32 bit & newer is fine with large volumes though, as is Server 03 and newer.

That is bad. Running chkdisk with your drive in that state means all the data on that drive is corrupted. Time to start over. frown.gif
