CrossFireX HD5850 (non identical) & Overclocking?

Thread Starter
I got a MSI 5850 & a Sapphire 5850 in crossfire, both are custom boards.

Trying to see if I can overclock it but any adjustment with CCC or MSI overburner will freeze the system.

How are you guys overclocking your crossfire systems.

PS: Sorry if this has been asked many times, had a quick look but didn’t find any answers that were specific. (If I has missed a thread, please show me a link to it)

Go to your start menu and search regedit, this will bring up your registory. Use the registory search and enter EnableULPS this will open a folder and the first registory file EnableULPS, double click it and chang the value to 0. There will be folders in the left bar called 0000 0001 0002 and so on. Search them for the EnableULPS and do the same. Also if you have the cards next to each other there will be reduced airflow so youll need to increase the fan speed.

Overclock in smaller increments, like 5 - 10 Mhz at a time. I prefer to use MSI Afterburner to do my overclocking. The Ati CCC feature sucks in my opinion and has very little options.

Thanks for the responce, have seen this mentioned before.

But does this not make the cards constantly run at full speed? (core and memory) with no power save option? Would this not reduce the lifespan of the cards?

even a 2 MHz change is freezing the system.

Did you set the config file in Afterburner to enableunofficialoverclocking=1? If so, try setting to zero instead.

OK, tried that.. works.. but sor some reason my MSI TFII 5850 only would go up to 775 MHz..

any way of making that go higher?

Have you tried just using 1 card and seeing how high each card goes? Then use whatever is the lowest overclock of the two?

Oh... I meant on CCC or Msi AB the slider stops at 775 for the msi Coz I disabled overclocking as above.. but alone the card would go up to 860 when the overclocking is enabled.. but that crashes the PC in crossfire...

Not sent from my Nokia 5110 running Froyo.
