Regarding overclocking i'm definitely a noob on that area but watched the video commercial for the 1155 CPU's "so easy even your grandma can do it :-P" so i'll probably google it or make a thread in here and ask for some pointers on oc'ing the CPU.

Here is the specs for the build im making

Core i7 2600k

Asus P8P67 PRO B3

8 GB corsair 1600 MHz Vengeance CL8 (2x4 GB Dual kit)

Corsair Hydro H70

XFX 6950 2 GB version

WD 1TB caviar black 7200 RPM 64MB cache

XFX 850 watt black edition
Unlock the 6950 to a 6970! Also I'd add an SSD in it. As for the case, can you please send a link to the thread?? I MIGHT be able to give some advice..

I was in the same predicament as you, trying to choose between the i5 & i7 and decided on the 2600k and I couldn't be happier. As far as overclocking goes, I changed the multi to 45, tested stability and am sitting on an easy 4.5GHz with plenty of head room for more. When I get time, I'm hoping for the 5.0GHz. You will be happy with your build.

I think the XFX version of the 6950 can't be unlocked to 6970 shaders? I might be, and probably are wrong, but I'd advise looking into that gpu alot more, I'm sure there was one that you can't unlock.

Basically, the 6950, like mine for example, is a 6950 with some shaders disabled and slightly lower memory capability. Relatively easily, this can be unlocked, and if the boundaries are pushed sensibly, there is practically no risk involved.

Feel free to pm me if you want more info

That motherboard is a very decent choice, no worry there

Again, I really wouldn't advise you to spend that extra money on the cpu if you aren't going to use the extra features, but your choice

Hard drive is fine, maybe consider grabbing a small 60Gb SSD for a OS boot only drive? It looks like the only thing that is missing from the level of that build... *cough* you can get an SSD with the money saved from getting a 2500k

What case's you looking at?

I like your build !! If you dont plan on crossfire ( you could probably get away with a quality 650 psu) i have heard a quality 650 will even crossfire 6950,s I would go 750 for CF personally , but thats just me!
ssd wouldnt be a bad idea either.
Ps. i own a xfx black series ( great psu)

LOL :-D

I've narrowed it down to 3 cases the CM HAF X Nvidia edition, Bitfenix Colossus Venom edition and the Antec DF 85. I'll be making a green look with green led fans so the Antec will probably end up being the most expensive one in the run but im looking forward to your suggestions.

Just replied in your case thread so not to hijack this one. I have had no experience with any of those cases, although I have heard a few bad points on Antec's build quality, and my Brother has a HAF and although it is not to my taste, I must say it is solid and feature full

Do not settle for less, buy the case you like the most, and MOD IT! MOOODDDDD IT

I can offer my personal experience only!

I own a antec 600 !
Its decent case looks cool and has good airflow! With that being said it has no cable manegment very few high end features if any !My friend has a 1200 its much better and has cable managment ,but his top fan went out after a few months.

I own a HAF-X
Its a great good looking case ! It has alot of great features ,and cable managment is a breeze! I would definitly recommend it!

PS. I BELIEVE THEY HAVE A NIVIDIA GREEN MODEL!

HEHE

I'm pretty good with computers hardware software and such but working with tools actually let me help you get the picture

Sypherian + Dremel Equals alot of accidents waiting to happen

No seriously i suck at that kinda thing and would actually end F'ing everything up except the thing i was supposed to cut all though have been considering a custom paint job on the exterior of the case i know someone who works with painting cars nothing fancy maybe a two tone scheme
