gtx 480 sli or 6950 flashed crossfire??

Hey as the title states i am choosing between these cards to go crossfire or sli now i realise both have their advantages but i am wanting to know which would be better for value? and would i expirence alot of problems with either sli or crossfire? I'd also like to know what sort of psu i'd need. Any suggestions/tips on other cards in sli (under $500-600 budget) would be appreciated or any general feedback thanks!.

Well you know what? nVidia or ATi, you are going have slight problems with a dual GPU (SLI/Crossfire) setup compared to a single GPU setup.

But most folk would rather have two GPU's then a dual GPU card, eg. 580's in SLi IMHO is better then having a single GTX 590, Two heads one body, rather have two bodies entirely. biggrin.gif

Go for the gtx 480 sli. saying from experience, have had that setup, and miss it dearly

With a 600 usd budget you could get 480's SLI and get water blocks as well, though not sure if your into Water cooling

i've never used water cooling before would i have to refill the coolers on the video cards? and would having water coolers for my 2 gpus enough heat to make it worth getting and my cooler is a noctua air cooler would this matter? sorry if these are noob questions never used water cooling before..

Well, I'm not 100% sure what the performance of each is, but assuming they are similar you'll have downsides to both.

Two gtx480's will be hot and consume more power, but from my own experience the drivers work fine every time. Whereas 6950's could unlock to 6970's and run much more efficiently whilst noticeably cooler, but I hear that the drivers are as good and it can sometimes be an issue getting crossfire to work correctly, although that is not something I have ever tried myself

EDIT

If you're not familiar with watercooling then I suggest for now you don't think about that smile.gif

EDIT again

I'd say for sli you'd need a decent 850w PSU or above really

I highly doubt that 2 6950s even flashed to 6970s can beat overclocked GTX 480s. The 6950s might be cheaper though and if you get GTX 480s with the reference cooler they do run hotter

If its on air, I would say a couple of 6950 with 2GB memory.
They will be less hot, consume less power, and should cost a less.

Performance wise, there is no big difference between them and the 480, and since they run a bit less hot, you should have a bit more room to OC.
