Want to SLI 8***/9*** series cards. Help?

post #1 of 12
Thread Starter
Ok, so basically I have my ATI/AMD overclocking computer for my moms house. So for my birthday I want to make an EVGA p55v MATX/i5/SLI midtower gaming computer. Out of all of the cards I have ever owned the 8 and 9 thousand series cards were definitely my most favorite.

So basically I have a 700w power supply and I want your guys'es input on the idea Thanks a ton LB

.. well .. the 88XX-series are decent .. But are you certain that you do not want a better GPU for an i5 ? I mean ... Gaming.

Also, I'd go Sandy Bridge instead ..

The 8/9 series cards were great... but if you're building new, why bother?

Also, I'd go Sandy Bridge instead ..

i loved my 8800GT SLi rig. GTX285 performance when i OC'd them
oh the memories...

anyway, i suggest getting something like 5670 CF(8800GT performance each, GTX280 performance in CF) or a 6790 (HD4890~GTX275 performance)
6790 is probably your best choice tho. and since CF scaling has improved sooo much with the 6xxx series. 6790 CF is probably close to or better than my 5830 CF set up seeing how good 6xxx series scales.

and DO NOT i repeat, DO NOT buy a 1156 CPU now! go sandyballs --i mean sandy bridge!
get a i5 2500 if OCing isnt planned, or a 2500K for maximum OCing!

sandy bridge is really worth it! for now...

GTX 460s are where it's at now. A pair of those will chew through almost any game for less than $250. There are better ATI single card options available though (6950 / 6970).

nope.
GTX460s are where its at...in 2010

X2 HD6870s will beat the crap out of ANY GTX460 SLi combo.

6870 CF>460 SLi
but 560Ti SLi>6870 CF
BUT 6950 1GB CF>560Ti SLi

so yeah, AMD is winning more than charlie sheen.

But then the 570 > 6950
But 6970 = 570
But 580 > 570 & 6970
But 590 > 580
But 6990 > 590!

I forgot where I was going with this.

WAIT!

5970>580

btw you should be looking for booty instead of GPUs since booty is more important than food & water

Oh, c'mon, let's be more fair:

6790 = GTX 460 764mb/GTX 550 TI
6850 = GTX 460 1mb
6870 = perhaps the GTX 470 & Radeon HD 5850
6950 = GTX 560 TI & GTX 470
6970 = GTX 570 & GTX 480
5970 = GTX 580 (more or less, bear with me)
6990 = GTX 590

It's not equal, but close to ..

Find me a 6870 for $109 AMR and I'll believe you.
