Ok, so a friend of mine is willing to sell me his 4870 toxic to go with my current 4870. Should I do that for $100 or just buy a 5850 thats on craigs list for $150?

Two 4870s are faster than on 5850. Not much faster though. Is your 4870 a Toxic aswell?

I'd probably go 5850 just to have better minimum FPS, compared to two lesser powerful crossfired cards.

Also less heat, power used, less space taken up in your case and that also helps airflow.

Yeah, the wasted watts you wont use actually will effect you power bill of you play games like do. 5850 is much more efficient. Plus if you sell your other 4870 you could get another 5850 much sooner.

He actually does have another 5850 that I want to get. They are both reference cards, but it's more gpu power than I would ever use. Good thing I just got a big rasie.

I went the Crossfire route, and I'm happy enough. I don't think a 5850 is worth the extra cash vs. two HD4870s, especially since the 4870s outperform it. I'm waiting until the HD7000 series, personally.

5850, hands down.

The $150 you are seeing for a 5850 really is not that good of a deal. You can get a new one for less than that
