No, no reinstall is required. It is recommended.

Make sure you have a backup just in case.

I flashed from 2.09 beta to 2.09 without reinstall and there was no issue.

That's because your OS is not on the Vertex 3,as i understand it if i have my OS on the Vertex 3 (as i do) i will have to reinstall my Windows..... frown.gif

The vertex 3 was my boot drive until a few weeks ago. The flash I mentioned was done with it as the boot drive, no issues.

In regards to the random missing SSD in BIOS, I am having the same issue! I have the Vertex3 120gb and an ASUS MB with the Z68 chipset. I tried numerous sata ports, both Intel and Marvell controllers. I tried a second vertex drive after submitting an RMA, still same issues. Nothing seems to fix this issue, I even upgraded to the firmware 2.15 on the replacement drive while my OS was still running on the HDD. The weird thing about my issue is that in only happens when the computer is literally cold, like when I first turn it on after sleeping or coming home form work. It never seems to happen when I cold boot the machine after it has been on recently. I am about to just sell this vertex on eBay and buy an Intel SSD. I heard that Intel SSD drives are the most reliable.

Updating the firmware may actually cause more problems than you would expect. Even OCZ tells you that you shouldn't actually update your firmware as it may cause unstability, corrupt files, or just a nice paperweight that won't do anything until it's reformatted again and Windows is installed back onto it.

Honestly with OCZ and their SSD's it's either hit or miss. My Vertex 3 has been fine and dandy ever since I had it, no firmware upgrade or anything. Plug in, install windows and I was up and running.

But in some cases OCZ products just utterly fail and have nothing but problems, or are just DOA.

Unfortunately this is the only input I have. SSD life reports that my SSD will fail in 2020, let's hope that's actually true lmao.

Can I join the club smile.gif I was running 2 OCZ 60gig Se drives for ages but needed more space so got 2 vertex 3 120gig drive had nothing but problems with them, 1 works better than the other and the both have different batch numbers.. Also after reading this thread people have stuck stock CPU setting on to help with problem, I noticed this when I got my drives but wasn't sure if it was just me.. I'm on a Asus extreme x79 .

I got myself Intel SSD 60GB as a storage drive because I couldn't take The OCZ Vertex crashing all the time. So I figured I will go all good now. Well not to late I find out that every software I installed on my 120G OCZ Vertex 3 Either had application errors or registry issues. I can't believe I paid $200 for a 'Pandora box' I start RMA Process we will see what replacement will be like.
