Not so much due to SATA-III interface (since HDDs cannot generally take advantage of even SATA-II speeds, let alone SATA-III speeds), but due to the 64MB cache this HDD has as well as other design features Western Digital put into their Caviar Black series. Of course, there are better HDDs (Western Digital Velociraptor, namely), but they tend to be significantly more pricey. A slow storage HDD would be good for general backups and perhaps to store your OS drive image(s), though!
Strangely enough I found out who the "culprit" was! It was an external USB 3.0 drive (WD My Book Essential). When I disconnected it, the boot time became very fast. However to get to that point I had to reset the CMOS and had to start all over again by connecting one device at a time.

Well that's good to hear. I didn't think to suggest this. I too notice that when I keep my USB 3.0 HDD connected (I have the same one you do! ), it slows down booting.

I too have been having the same problem.

For the past 2 months this has been happening, applications will freeze/become unresponsive, can't click the task bar, etc, but the mouse moves around, then my computer BSODs.
Upon restart my SSD is not detected, even in the BIOS. I have to switch off the power to my power supply, wait, then switch it back on. The SSD will be detected and windows will boot.

I have:
OCZ Vertex 1 30gb
Asus P6T SE
Windows 7

I had been using my computer fine for almost a year before all this started happening, I have done everything, reinstall windows, secure erase, flash the SSD and mother board firmware, driver updates, windows updates, os teaks, bios tweaks, etc, etc. I don't think there could be anything anyone could possibly suggest at this point, that I haven't tried.

But yeah, this is just my +1 to the very long 'stay away from OCZ' list.

Side note, is there actually an SSD worth buying? I've spent the last 3 months looking at SSDs to buy a new one, and every single one has crippling problems, I'm up 87 on my list. For every 1 person saying how great a drive is, I've found 20 more saying 'stay the **** away'.

I thought it was my Premiere Pro CS 5.5!! Now that you mentioned this, I have similar situation. Every now and then my pc will go to "sleep". At that time nothing happens, then after few minutes everything works!! This is not just annoying, but scary becuase it can happen any time. I purchased the SSD to make things faster, but not to live with such nuisance. Is there any fix?

I didn't realise my thread was still going!
OCZ's latest firmware update for the Vertex 3 and Agility 3 SSDs is version 2.09. If you don't already have this version, I suggest flashing to it using the OCZ Toolbox. Full instructions are on OCZ's website. I think version 2.09 is the magical version that fixed these problems despite OCZ's prior refusal that it was their product at fault...
Please note that people have reported slight performance drops after flashing to version 2.09 so what I suggest you do is flash to 2.09 and then Secure Erase (also using OCZ Toolbox). Start with a clean installation of Windows 7 and you'll be sorted (hopefully).

That's the part I am really worried about. All my applications are licensed and to install "and configure them" all of them would take so much time. I am also worried that Microsoft will allow me to install Widnows 7 for a limited time. I am not sure though.

I would really like to image the drive I have to a data drive. Do you have any recommendaiton for an applicaiton that can take an image of a system drive , store it off site and re-create another system drive from that image?

Concern about new build with Vertex 3 120 GB
Hello Friends I'm new to the forum

Last week I decided to upgrade my rig. I always wanted to get an SSD so I chose to purchase a vertex 3 120 GB because it was fast and good priced. Here is other core components I ordered:
Intel i5 2500K
MSI Z68 gd65 gen 3 MOBO
******* Vantage 8 gb DDR3 16000
OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB.
Since this is my first time with SSD I decided to go ahead and do research a bit how to install and use it before i get it.
Unfortunately I came across many complains about particular drive I have ordered and now I'm really scared of putting my system together no joke the excitement went away...
I'm planning to use the vertex 3 as my only drive in my desktop. I wonder
with what should I start, what to do or what not to do since I don't know yet if I will be getting the issue.
How you flash your drive FW if it's the only drive in your rig. I would appreciate any comments thank you

Thank You very much

When you get the drive, check to see what firmware you have. If it's 2.06, update it to 2.11 -- You won't have any issues from it from there own. I can almost guarantee it.

Don't do anything else with that drive but update the firmware first.

OK i did some research and there are people who are happy with 2.9 FW. Would you try it with that FW or still recommend to flash it to 2.11? and is there any additional things i should do before installing windows than switch SATA to AHCI mode;

Thanks

You can't be serious can you?

There is a thread on the OCZ forum for people having issues with 2.11

Don't even try to tell me that people aren't setting up the drive right because there are people in the thread who's drive came with 2.11 out of the box and are having problems. There are also people who updated, secure erased, cleared cmos and are having problems.

http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...-freezes-again

Seriously Balsagna, do you work for OCZ? Every time you post info about the problem saying it's not bad, anybody can go to the OCZ forum and debunk what you said.

When Sandforce gets to the root of this problem and the issue disappears, I'll be the first one to scream it out loud here. Until then, telling people the issue is minor is a great disservice to OCN users looking for help.
