If you have an amd based chipset' do not use the guide unless you can differentiatebetween chipset files and amd driver files.
As for amd uninstall utility, if seems to respond different on various systems. It makes a mess for some people and does a clean job for others. Seems to work best with windows seven 64 bit.

Used this to install 13.2 Beta. Looks like it turned out great! Thanks for the guide.

Hello, well I'm switching to an Nvidia GPU from an AMD one. So I should follow this guide step by step since I am switching to Nvidia? Also should I restart right after I uninstall the Catalyst program? Or can I keep going down the guide and delete everything else then just shut down my PC?

Bradley,

Nice guide, my question is with Win 8 Pro, I have read alot about the AMD uninstall utility not working on Win 8. Site even says Win 7, so any chance you made the switch to Win 8 and figured out the best way to unistall AMD drivers?

Don't use the AMD uninstall tool for Win 8. Many reports suggest not to do so.
Just follow my guide as best you can for windows 8. It should be almost the same.

Hi Bradley,

thanks for going to all this effort for helping frustrated people like me!

I went through and did the exhaustive manual uninstall as per your guide.

Bizarrely, after I restarted, the computer seemed to be taking extra time for some reason, and all of a sudden the desktop background changed to a default ASUS background.

When I go to the control panel and attempt to update the drivers for the GPU, it tells me the best drivers are already installed! When read that, I searched the registry, and all the ATI & AMD folders couldn't be found. I am confused! After Effects and Davinci Resolve won't even open, and Photoshop always says that it has a problem with the display driver and is disabling GPU acceleration.

My laptop is an ASUS Notebook G73jh series, running Win7 64Bit, 12GB RAM, i7(Q740 @ 1.73Ghz).
My GPU is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870

I just wished my expensive laptop would perform as it should!
Cheers

Just download and install the latest drivers for your GPU from the AMD website. This should get you moving again! smile.gif

First off, i'd like to thank you for putting this out there for everyone. I'm sure there's a slew of people you've helped . I'm about to start this process as i'm getting low scores on my crossfire 7970's (13k 3dmark11 score, 6.0 on windows performance index, it sucks). They are different brands/kinds of cards though so hopefully this will still work. I have just one question on step number 4. It says go to "Folder Options". What folder options? Under the AMD folder do you mean? I was kinda confused on that one. Again, thanks for the help. -Jeff
